Well, if you are looking for a great time to spend in the wilderness. You won't have to hop far, for an adventure.

My dear friend Robert, at 68, has taken more game than I probably will, in my lifetime. However, there is one creature he has talked about, over and over for at least 10 years. The animal he dreamed about hunting for, for so long was a snowshoe hare.

In 2006, I traveled to Maine, to trap black bears with Bounty Hunter Guide Service. During my stay, I flipped through photo albums of hunting success. Page after page, eventually brought me to the snowshoe hare hunting that Orin Young offers. I immediately thought to myself, "what a perfect place, to bring Robert".

It all came together for us, to go up this year. Robert, is an avid rabbit hunter and has hunted with beagles for years. Flip the quarter, to me, well....I went with a guy, one time, to rabbit hunt. I wasn't sure how I would make out snowshoe hare hunting, but the most important thing was to make Robert's dream of hunting snowshoe hares, come true. One thing would unveil fast, some people are quicker than others. I seen about a dozen hares and found myself to be too slow, ready the other way, not ready at all and would unload my shotgun, only to miss. Robert, on the other hand was quick, usually ready, and would fire only one shot/per hare. Robert 3, Bethe 1. It was success, in the end. Robert told his bunny stories, all the way home. It was special, in the finest meaning of the word.

"You can come hareless, but you won't leave hareless. That's the Maine thing!"

If was a memorable trip, that I will never forget. Walking with snowshoes on, for the first time. Experiencing, what it is like to hoof it in the Maine wilderness on top of 4 to 5 feet of snow. We seen lots of turkeys, deer and hare. Maine, has many critters to offer someone. The tracks left behind that we got to see on this particular trip, proved there is an abundance of coyote, bobcat, fisher, pine marten, mink, and otter. Just to name a few. Icing on the cake, to spend a few days hunting with a dear friend is too valuable for words.
