So easy my 9 year old gets it...

I couldn't be more proud than at this moment...

I think it was in one of the threads here (at PM) that someone mentioned the "common sense" approach to gun control.

So I ask my son tonight, "If you have a gun, and you are going to rob someone. You know this lady in Liberal, USA doesn't have any weapon. You don't know if this lady in Freetown, USA has a weapon or not. Which one would you choose to rob?

Well, drumroll please.... My son not only answered the unarmed lady, but did so in about .1 second!

Right there you have it lefty, common sense (I know it's a dying trait in American children these days).

Honestly don't U guys have a new theme by now? It's that same old HYPE let's try to scare someone. There going to take our guns, B.S. There is more guns now than there has ever been and as far as asking a 9yr old to rob someone that might be pushing it. U THINK /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

If it makes you feel any better CDenton, I also asked my children if it's right for a person (even a Dr.) to take a human life. Whether that person is sick or not. And if a baby that is unborn is a person.

You see, I am doing something that I know is fading fast in this country. I am teaching my children about morals, and core values.

So I don't have a "theme", I have a belief system, made up of several complex issues.

Gotta ask this - What are you proud of, that he knows what person to rob in two fake cities? Maybe more work on the three R's instead will keep him from needing to mug people.

How did we now the ABORTION issue was next? Your game is WEEK. I can see your better off talking to a 9yrd old or maybe not.

It seems to be a dying art these days. Don't worry, we know what you meant... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Savage,

You sound like a wise, good dad, buddy. In an era when far to many parents turn the child rearing task over to the TV set and Hollyweird values, you are shaping the little people with whom your life has been blessed by instilling in them the habit of weighing what's right and what's wrong.

Bravo! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

What??? Instilling right and wrong in children by having them correctly identify the unarmed person to rob??? This little lesson is just as easily taught from an angle of the importance of being able to defend ones self rather than the ability to spot an easy mark and commit larceny. Good grief. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I do believe that the original meaning of the initial post was to illustrate that even a 9 year old see's the importance of being an armed citizen, and if said, guns were somehow taken away, then said citizen would be a much easier target for a criminal to engage.

In other words, you don't have to be the head cashier at the Walmart to understand it's easier to rob an unarmed person that it is a person carrying a gun! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif

The post had nothing to do with "teaching" a 9 year old who to rob... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Savage, you handled it well, including the nonsense coming from some here. You obviously spend time with your kids posing adult type questions which will someday prove valuable when your kids learn how to assess things well and make good choices. As far as responding to the naysayers, remember this, You can't have a battle of wits with an unarmed man.

And one more point Savage, so as to not further inflame the tender sensibilities of these same naysayers who find it terribly taxing to try to understand your abstract reasoning, try posing a different question to the kids tonite. This will further help them to understand liberal thinking, and maybe even some here. Tell them that in order for them to understand socialism they must participate in the redistribution of wealth. When they return from trick or treating with their bags full of candy, you will be required by the socialist in charge of the new Whitehouse to take half of that candy and distribute it among the kids in the neighborhood who were either too lazy to go or did not have the success that they had.Hey, fair is fair right? It will be another brilliant analogy to help them understand what this nation is facing in terms they will certainly understand.Ain't change wonderful? Yep we're the ones we've been waiting for!

How in the heck does something like this become a left-right political issue? Must be that if anybody disagrees just label them as a liberal and since 95% of this board is conservative they will see the "L" word and grab the torches and pitchforks. As for my own political philosophies if you turn your head 90 degrees to the right and squint you might be able to make them out on a clear day.

I think that fanatasism or extremism in any form is dangerous.

To me, being "all to the right", or "all to the left" is pretty closeminded.

Even though this is pretty much a conservative board, folks should just leave the pitch forks and torches at home. If you cannot express your point of view without fear of being "forked" or "burned", then what's the point? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

I don't recall mentioning anything about being "all" the way to the right or left but your correct, it starts to close up a lot out near the ends of the spectrum.

You may have taken this a little to literally. The point more is that on this forum I have seen many times that when somebody is bringing weak game they pop up with the liberal label like it is going to change peoples opinions just by saying it.

Please don't think that I was referring to you Doyle. I meant that ANYONE who leans "ALL THE WAY" in either direction. That goes for anybody.

I also happen to agree with your example of people being attacked in this forum for their points of view. No sarcasm here at all.

Folks should be able to express what they think without getting "dog piled"...
