Well, I went to the local gun and shooting emporium today. BIG mistake! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif I found a very lightly used Remmy VSF in the used rack. So, me being a bit of a dickerer, I inquired as to the rock bottom price. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif That was that. Out the door it came with me. There was still the factory sticky grease in the magazine box and underside of the action. The blueing on the lugs was un-touched, and the jewling on the bolt was pristene. The V16 Weaver is mounted to work out the loads. The 1/8 min dot is sweet for that. There is a Leupy Long Range in the future for this particular rifle. If it shoots. What can I say, I am a sucker for a 22/250.

Whew! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif I didn't expect an old used rack clunker to shoot like this! I can't believe the first thing I dropped in her went into a hole. The real kicker is, these are loads for the Tikka. I'm glad I made a power buy on H4895 a couple months ago during the OSHA scare. I was kinda upset I wasn't going to have time this week to give her a good workout. I guess I will stop right here. After a click to the left that is. I see all you old VSF lovers were right. They shoot pretty darn good./ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

SWEEEEEET!!!! My dad has that one. He replaced the stock with an HS precision, bedded and floated it, and put muzzle brake on it. 36 gr. of Varget and a 52 gr. berger it will consistently put 5 under a half inch /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif I knocked off a rockchuck a 520 this year. You are going to love that gun.

I was wondering about the stock. This one is bedded in an aluminum block, but I don't know that it is the best.Otherwise, I love the feel of it. I have a good store of 52gr bullets, so I may be on the way.

My go to the woods coyote gun for better than 30 years was the 22-250 in the form of one bolt action or another. Shot mostly 55 grainers at 3750. Lots of coyotes dropped from that combo. I've mostly been a Remington fan, but has several mausers and even, gasp, one Winchester.

A few years ago I picked up a Ruger #1 in 243 and used that for nearly five years. Last year I gave the #1 to my grand daughter for her varmint/deer gun and did the 204 Ruger thing.

We'll see how that goes and perhaps if it doesn't another 22-250 will be in the offing. Great gun and that one you picked up looks like a dandy.

Depending on when the rifle was made, the stock might be a B&C as they supplied an H-S clone to Remington for a period of time a couple of years ago..

Even though they look alike, there was a noticeable difference in quality among some of them upon closer inspection.... Especially in the aluminum block and bedding area.

I had one with the H-S stock and I really liked it. Was one of those guns I sorta wish never left as it was a GREAT shooter and it was also a 22-250.

Dogwood Creek - Thats a beauty, and thats also why I stay out of gunshops unless I am ready to buy /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I think that would have gone home with me as well!

I hope to at the very least fire a few Winny White Box out of her Tues evening. If not then, it will have to wait till the weekend. Domestics you know. If it shows me some good stuff, it may have to go along to New Mexico in Oct. Fingers crossed.

Ok now I'm curious how would you tell for sure?

Right in front on the recoil lug there will be an oval or circle (If I am remebering correctly). One was HS & the other was B&C. Sorry can't remeber which is which either. Hopefully someone will chime in. I think the oval was the HS??? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif.

However, I have an older VSSF stock that is hollowed the length of the forarm with no marking. Havn't figured that one out yet... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif

The stock on this rifle has that "hollow" spot in the forend aswell I think it's early 90's. I thought it was a HS stock, but there are no markings... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

Dogwood I have the same gun but in .223 w/ a Zeiss 6.5-20x50. She is a shoot for sure. I am not a reloader but I have been getting 5/8" groups with Winchester 55gr Ballistic silver tips. The trigger is set under 1 pound and that is taken me a while to get use to. All of my other guns are set about 3 pounds. I love the way those VSF feel. If yours shoots as good as mine then you will love her forever. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Good looking rig there Coyoteman23. Love the glass. I was looking at the Zeiss line of scopes the same time I bought the VSF. Does yours have a paralax adjustment? I noticed you have to get WAY up the Conquest line to get the paralax adj, then it is on the side. I like side paralax adj, but don't know why they don't offer it on the lower end Conquest. How do you like yours?

Like most other hunters on this site I have a number of guns. But my VSSF 22-250 is one I never get tired of. I bought it in the early 90's, slapped a new 6.5x20 Leupold on it, sighted it in and several thousand rounds later have Never changed it's zero. (assuming I remember to put it back to the original setting after a day on a dog town.) I'm sure it has the HS stock on it. Other than the small piece I knocked out of it (and glued back on) have had no problems with it. I shoot nothing but 55 gr Nosler Ballistic tips and 37gs of Hodgson 380. It will still shoot the half-inch groups.
Hope you are as well served with yours!

Dogwood I love my Zeiss scope. Yes it does have the side parallax adjustment. I have also noticed that you cant get the side adjustment on lower power scope. I don't know why they do that. I think every scope should have it. The only thing I am not crazy about is this scope doesn't have turret caps. This is my 2nd Zeiss scope and I know from now on Zeiss is all I will buy. I have bought Leupold's, Burris, Nikon, and alot more and the Zeiss line of scopes is by far the best ones I have tried. I am sure someone people will argue with me on this one but hey that's my opinion.
