So, What Happened To All The Gun Powder?

Friend of mine is looking for some W231, Green Dot & maybe other stuff. She's finding that she can't get it anywhere & asked me about it.

A quick search of a few major sites I use, I haven't found either of those in stock & when I did find anything in stock, there was very little selection.

It's like aliens beamed it all up...

Um... Where have you been the last 14 months?

Clue.... Same thing happened to all the 22 ammo.

I have seen some stuff in one of the local mom-and-pop shops, but it was over 30$ a pound. Still come across some at other shops occasionally for 22-24$/pound.

Good thing I still have most of the powders I use. Been out of N160 for a while, looks like that won't change soon.

The last Winchester powder I saw locally was a couple pounds of 748 about 6 months ago. Other than that, it may as well be unobtainium.

Stu-

Hope you are well. I've been able to find some powder online, but literally check every day. Hard pill to swallow - those crazy hazmat shipping fees - for a few pounds here and there. But I would say that the powder situation is getting better compared to the last 14 months. Still far from normal, but as most would say - "this is the new normal."

I haven't seen any of the powders you mentioned above. The powder I've been seeing recently has been IMR varieties and Hodgdons. I will keep an eye out for you. And look forward to seeing you at 2015 PM convention in Tucson.

You guys have it relatively easy. Up here powder is non-existent. One reason is the barge companies are all under the mistaken impression they can only carry 100 pounds per vessel. Stupid, but there it is.

Lowest cost I've been quoted is $150 for a 24" square box weighing 35 pounds plus the $20 haz-mat fee and not including the 15% fuel surcharge. Problem is again the mistaken idea 100 pounds per vessel.

Welcome PM Stu! Glad to have you. You'll find that this is a great place for all sorts of firearms/shooting knowledge and that the guys here are just itching to help out new members. Don't be afraid to ask a question, the only "dumb" question is the question not asked. Let me know if I/WE can help in any way.
