#$%&*? {SOME} Postal workers

I just get tired of having to sort and deliver my neighbor's mail that gets left in my box a couple times a week. It always makes me wonder where my mail is going when I don't get something I'm expecting.

My son just got his Vehicle Registration renewal notice in the mail postmarked a year and a half ago.

I send out lots of certified mail, return receipt requested. The priority on the return cards must be Class 6 (when hell freezes over).

I went into the PO the other day to by postcards. The price hasn't changed since the last postal increase but there was a new stamp on the cards which changed the ID number in their computer so it took them (three clerks) 15 minutes to figure out how much to charge me for 100 26 cent postcards. You do the math!!!

Just for what it's worth... Yesterday here it was about 18 degrees with a 20 mph north wind, some patchy ice still clinging in spots from a recent winter storm. I saw two letter carriers walking their routes, heavy bag slung over the shoulder, sock cap pulled down, gloves on with a handful of mail, head down trudging along. If you have a good one, appreciate him or her. They're no different than any others, there are good ones and a few bad ones scattered in the mix. I agree GC, there are a LOT of times that we only see what bothers us, and not what goes on in the background or out of our immediate line of vision.

And about the cost of postage........

I don't know about everyone else, but who wants to take this letter I have on my desk to California for me? I'll pay you a little more than the $.39 that the USPS is going to charge. 3500 miles for $.39............that's a pretty good deal by my calculations.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

since moving out frommy moms house i ahve had 2 mail carryers, both have walked my block and the next one over. one lady would come to my door and knock to let me know i had mail. then i got a puppy it was a pit bull 6 weeks old. she came over acting terrified because it licked her boot. then 20 minutes later her husband came to my house and was yelling at me that i had better have my dog in my house next time she came to deilver my mail or i would loose my dog. well he got a whole belly full of laughs that he did not like then left. i talke dto her and she appoligized for her husband and from then on she would bring him treats. i can not be mad there were a couple of people who had some mean dogs on our street that i would not like to go around either. so not all of them are too bad i happen to miss her she was very nice and friendly, he did her job by the old way rain,shine, cold, snow, or dark she was there walking the whole way!!
 
I have a good one. We have community mail boxes that are located a block or so from my house. If our carrier sees me at home and I have a package, particularly bullets, he will bring them to my door instead of locking them in the package area of the mail box cluster. He doesn't have to do that.

He must be from the old school, still believed in service to his customers, but I can guarantee he knew there was no supervisors in the area. It is a game the older carriers play trying to outwit the "stupidvisors".
On the issue of dogs, they can be expensive, one that got me cost over $25,000 in hospital expenses and about 6 months of my salary, their homeowners insurance paid but they were cancelled at renewal.

Hidalgo, aren't they getting some of the best civil service wages/benefits for that /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif Is not that their job /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Yep, $7.90 for a book of 20 stamps is a real bargain /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif The days of the "pony express" are long gone /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif
 
Postal employees are no longer Civil Service, that was done away with about 18 years ago I think. I don't know what carriers are making now. Many carriers now are "contract carriers" and they don't make much. When I left 15 years ago, I was making $30,000 a year as a Postmaster in a Level 11 post Office. Those are the smallest ones you find in a very small community.

I'm not sure I understand. Are you agreeing. or disagreeing?

What!? Me big on rules? Give me a break. Thats one of the reasons I left there. Most of the regulations serve a good purpose, many do not. And no, you can't carry a .45, but you can carry dog spray.
 
Do they (the postal service), test for reading skills, or dyslexia???? I very often receive mail for 405 when my address is 504, and even receive mail for 302 ???????
How many rental payments (I manage over 600 storage units) do I NOT receive, putting my tenants in legal jeopardy? And I wonder if these tenants have legal recourse when they have to pay lien charges ??

I was a carrier for a few years after I got out of the service. I could not take the crap that went on there with management. I decided I was going to go back to college on my GI Bill and Was getting so much crap for the mangement I told them to get %&*$ed. The day I walked out of there was a big relief, and one of the smartest things I have ever done.

There are some good carriers out there. The office I worked in though was full of high seniority carriers who had nice cushy, short routes, and god forbid you fill in on their 8 hour route and finish it in 7.

I had gotten in trouble before for delivering mail to blocked boxes and such like what is being described above. I remember getting in trouble one summer for leaving my truck window cracked open about 2" and getting out to do a swing. The doors were locked, it was short swing of about 6 houses but that didnt matter. Our supervisors had little else to do than drive around and hide and watch the carriers. It was a circus that I am glad to not be a part of anymore. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

In a nutshell, thats true.

They are tested when going through the application process, misdeliveries are due to being inattentive and/or lazy. File written complaints with the Postmaster for each incident. If that does not get results, contact Postal Inspectors. Then, the "blank" hits the fan and there WILL be results. Be sure to document each incident.
