Wow guys, some of this is really too bad, especially the guys who go after someone when you're hunting public land. I have a story to add though. A couple of years ago, I was a student at South Dakota State University in Brookings. Growing up in MN, I had yet to change my plates over to SD since SD was only my temporary residence. I went out duck hunting on the resident only pheasant opener to relax and maybe shoot a duck or two on some public land. My evening hunt went on and I heard a few shots from the road as I was sitting and figured it was guys shooting some roosters. When I got back to my vehicle the side of my vehicle was destroyed by shotgun fire. I had pellet holes from my rear bumper to my front bumper and both of my passenger windows were shot out and my wind shield had considerable damage. All told my vehicle had 2900 dollars of damage and I didn't hunt in SD for over a year. Now my wife and I have settled here in SD and I have the correct plates but people still get mad if you're from the wrong county. I don't know what the deal is with some people here.
With all of that being said, I have met some wonderful people in South Dakota, but I have also been chewed out for simply asking for permission to hunt. I basically stick to public land now and hope for the best.
Good hunting everyone and stay safe out there
