Speed Dip?

I used it a few years ago and was quite pleased with it. I don't trap much now & only did it for a few traps I have around for pests. It does seem to protect the traps well & gives them a nice black color. It was much quicker than logwood crystals & wax, which I have not done in a long time.

It smelled, they would stop a foot or two away and would not work the set. For every one I caught I had ten stop and leave. I was driving 100-120 miles a day to check all those sets. I had some that had it on for three years, I could still smell it from a couple inches away. I think the majority of the land trappers don't use it.T.20

I will agree with T20, for land sets stay away from the dip. For water sets only it is great. I have used both gasoline and the coleman fuel and did not like either for my cannie trapping.

I used it for 3 seasons on canines with no major problems. Decent catches. When the snow came , got enlightened though. Seemed like about 25% of canines shyed a little. Last season was real telling. Actually had a coyote break stride at about 30 yards and beeline to trap. then he sat down about 18in. back , turned and walked away.Back to dye and wax for me.25% is a lot of critters.

See I am not the only one who will not use it, again. I see a lot of people asking about it and several say it is great. I think when I had it on my traps it flaked off of the rust on the trap. I don't believe anything will stop rust, once it has started. If they can smell animal smells on dirty traps that have been waxed, they sure can smell any trace of petroleum distillates.T.20

The best trapper I know of said the dip is only another product to sell to people. Get them to try it and they spend more money with the company. People find out it don't work out and they have to buy more wax again. They only sell it to make money, it don't matter if it works or not. I tend to agree. If one part per million-benzene and water- contaminates water, how much of this is leaching into water when you set it in the water????T.20

I have used both with great success. I like boiling in crystals better because to get Speed Dip to stick you have to rust the trap first, pain in the ass.
