I'm new in the rifle reloading world. I'm wanting to try the 50g speer Tnt bullet in my 223 im just wondering if someone has tried this & what load/brand of powder did you use?

I haven't, yet, but I am strongly considering them in my newly acquired 223. I do use the 70gr/6mm variant in my 6x45s with excellent results...terminally and ballistically.

My buddy reloads his 7mm-08 with those tnt's and he has a tremendous results with everything from yotes, 300lb hogs, deer. I really wanna try them. I also wanna try some sierra 50 or 60 grain spear points and Jordan 50grain v-max. Those are gonna be my test subjects

Huh... Wassa spear point, and who is Jordan.

.

I have never tried the 50grainers but shoot a lot of the 55gr TNT's hp's. They are my favorite bullet for coyotes in both my 223 and 22-250. TNT's are a wicked bullet. In my 223's, I used to use H335 but have recently switched to CFE223 but both powders work great. My second favorite bullet is Mid South's varmint nightmares 55gr hp's. Mainly because they are cheap and group really well. Coyotes don't seem to care witch bullets I use.

I'm so excited about getting into rifle reloading. I've bought about everything I need to reload for my 223 and my 260 . I already had a sierra reloading book. Just gotta get a speer and hornady book. I reloaded shotgun shells for years when we'd go quail, duck, and turkey hunting. I had some 2 3/4 loads that would out shoot 3 in magnum loads saftley. I had some awesome recipes figured out.

I use to shoot the 50TNT's in my 222 - very accurate bullet.

I'm getting ready to try the 70TNT's in my 243win this year... will probably start off with IMR-4350. Will be trying the 70 Blitzkings, and more of the 70NBT's with this powder as well. Had tried the 70NBT's with Varget initially, then found a great load with them & Reloader 19, but that one was pretty mild... 3250fps. I want 'em 3500+.

In the 222, I used IMR-4198 (20.0 - 20.5), but in a 223... maybe Benchmark, or Reloader 10x? Benchmark is a great powder!

Please explain "wanting a slightly compressed load". I have always liked having a little room to spare in the cartridge. The crunching noise when loading a compressed load always made me nervous.

I also like a bit of compression in a load, though it is not always possible.

TNT's in .223 ok, however in a 22-250 I have had them blow up on the way to the target, "IF" loaded too high FPS. I think the box list max FPS. No I didn't read the box prior to loading them. I am a guy.

I read an article awhile back about the twist rates of 22-250's and 223's. If you have a fast twist rate like 1-7 through 1-9 the lighter bullets Will disenegrate not long after leaving the barrel Due to not having enough retension To hold itself together under the high velocity nature of the 22-250

I like slight compressed or almost compressed loads so that the powder burns evenly and when the case is turned horizontally it doesn't settle to where only the bottom half of the casing has powder and the top part is just dead space. Better ballistic coefficients, more even burn of powder. I always load under maximum load but you just gotta find a good powder and a powder that will gill up the casing as much as possible to the desired compression. I don't like heavily compressed loads due to the fact that the bullet could push its way out of the case eventually. Doing compressed loads if I don't fire the that day I will check them again in a few days or the night before I use them with a caliper to make sure the OAL has not changed any.

28g w748 with that bullet prints .480-.700 in my .223s.
That load will be slightly compressed as its just about a filled case.

compresed load - case "fill" ratio, this is why I think the 70's do so well with Reloader 19. At 48.1 of RL19 with a Nosler 70BT in my 243win, that case is really getting nice and full! Mild load, could probably turn it one more crank and reach the next accuracy node yet, but why mess with it I figure - this bullet shoots like a laser out of my Tikka T3 Lite seated at just 2.620" using CCI BR-2 primers. 47.7 was the ticket in another friends Savage 243, came together Day 1! There is definitely something to be said for trying to find loads that have a higher projected case fill ratio.

i have been using aa 2230C with 50 gr tnts in my R15 ar when i do my part i can shoot sub 1 moa all day have been using 26.5 gr which almost fills the case with the short mag in the ar. i have shot them in my sons 22-250 up to 4125 and never had them come apart
