New to Coyote hunting,, I first baught a JS preymaster PM3.. Didnt really like it and took it back and got a Foxpro Spitfire
Was just testing it out..To me its not as loud as the PM3 was,, in your opnions,,, Does it have enough Volume for the West Virginia Woods??? Thanks

No practical experience myself being new to ecallers.
My first was a Spitfire I wasnt impressed returned it after two days and bought a WT20, Lots of others on here seem to like there Spitfire. Supposedly a coyote hears way better then me but the Spitfire on volume one was almost pointless IMHO, I cant say for sure as I didnt have them at the same time to compare but the WT20 goes from 1-6 and at around 2-3 compares to the Spitfire on high. Is the Spitfire loud enough? Is the WT to loud? Dont know sorry but I am to new to say for sure one way or the other.

Assuming the JS Preymaster PM3 and the Foxpro Spitfire were both operating normally, I would think that either one would be loud enough for the W. Virginia Woods. How loud your Spitfire was compared to your PM3 is something we have no judgment on since we couldn't hear the two callers in question.

To accurately compare the two callers you would need to play the same sound on both machines. I think it was Allpredatorcalls that checked the volume output on the Spitfire but I can't find the thread on it now. You might contact them to get that information but I think it was rated about the same as the Preymaster.

You can use an external speaker on the Spitfire which will help some. It should be loud enough for calling in WV, especially if you use an external speaker.

Yes. Me and dad took his spitfire into the mountains and I could hear it echoing back from a mountain a little over 1/4 mile away. I would leave my FX5 behind so dad can use his Spitfire any time.

I can't comment on weather the Spitfire will work for you or not, but I do agree that Spitfire's volume control leaves much to be desired. I had one too, and didn't like the steps in volume.

Step 1 = extremely low, mainly static noise
Step 2 = low volume, but the sound plays clean thru speaker
Step 3 = good, solid sound, big jump from step#2
Step 4 = loud, good solid sounds, big jump from step#3
Step 5 = real loud, sounds break up w/ static at higher pitches

I have a FP spitfire as well and I thought that the sound was too low. My buddy says its fine the way it is. The only times I have used it in hunting conditions was when the wind was blowing me out of my stand so I really couldnt tell if it was loud enough or not. I am going to get an external speaker for it. That should solve any volume problems. For $200, its a good deal for the price.

I find that my spitfire plays different sound at different volumes. Some sounds are definatly louder than others.
I find no problems with volume but having said that there is days I like to start the calling with a loud hand call to reach out as far as I can and it seems to work very well

Good to hear. I have yet to call anyhting in but like I said, the wind was howling harder than my call was. All the reviews I read before I bought it said it was a great call for the money. An external speaker, if I need it, and I am sure it will be just fine.

The SpitFire I had was crystal clear on all volume levels without a hint of distortion. The volume levels seemed equal to my hearing as far as incremental steps. If you guys are having distortion or static, you might want to get in touch with FoxPro.

I wondered about the volume on mine also when I first got it. I had my neighbor listen to it from a half mile away while I played different sounds at each volume level. Then I used several different mouth calls so he could compare the volume of the Spitfire to the mouth calls. Using a closed reed jackrabbit mouth call at 1/2 mile, he couldn't hear the mouth call. I played a Jackrabbit distress on the Spitfire and he could easily hear it on volume level 4. When I raised the volume to level 5 he could hear the jackrabbit distress even with his cell phone to one ear while he was talking to me.

I switched to an open reed call and blew a raspy rabbit distress on it, as loud as I could and he said it still was not as loud as the Spitfire when I had the volume on level 5.

I tried howling on 3 different open reed mouth calls and even though they sounded loud while I was blowing them, he could hear the Spitfire better (with coyote coyote vocals) even with it on volume level 4. He said that when I went to level 5 with the howls the Spitfire was WAY louder than the open reed howlers and I was blowing them as loud as I could.

Nuff said and nuff seen. Im sold. I was a bit hessatant and thinking about other options but after your review and pics.......I do believe I am good to go. Thanks!

The PM4 has a level of 110+ des's and the Spitfire have a level of about 106! To make that's not enough difference to worry about! I've owned both and like both, but I like the 100% real sounds of the Foxpro better!

I have a Spitfire and the only thing I dont like about it is the levels of volume. If you hunt like me then you also need to remember the speaker is faceing away from you so its not going to be as loud. That being said I hunt in South Ga and the sounds are plenty loud enough. I was useing come yote sounds the other morning have had some calling back to me from 500-700 yards away. I was useing some rabbit distress calls later that morning and could hear them echoing way off in the woods I was hunting.

I dont like the big jumps in volume though. With my old call I used to slowly take the sound down like the animal was dying, but with this Spitfire its not as easy to do that. Hopefully the next "Affordable" call that Foxpro comes out with they will but alittle more thought in the volume department.

I think the height of the caller makes a big difference on how far the sound will travel. Also different foxpro sounds will be different in volume. The spitefire has good volume. It is not incredibly loud. It is enough for sure.
