Sportsmans Warehouse

Went with a friend to Sportsman's Warehouse to look at a rifle and see if they had the caliber he wanted in stock. They immediately checked and had none. They stated they had one but it sold.
Then several employees stated the company sells 6700 guns several times and if you order it online it should be here within 7 days. Wow!
First problem is-- it states Unavailable Online on their own website.
I have also been given this type of statement many times before at this establishment and feel sorry for the employees that are stuck in the middle of very poor management practices.
Employees are often unaware and unable to find items listed on special.
My friend may have to choose something else or drive to the next gun counter.

It is amazing to me how many sales they must be losing in this competing game of ignorance.

They are also $1 a pound higher on several different types of powder than Cabelas. They didn't used to be,this is in the last 6 months or so. What I hate is to call them and ask if a particular item is on the shelf and they don't know even what most items in the store are. Would save a fellow a good drive if they would even try to help. Millennials, don't give a crap. Their website needs to be updated as its really useless.

If you live behind enemy lines in Commifornistan like I do, Sportsman's Warehouse is the best store around hands down. It's 1000x better than the "local" gun shop.

Somebody always has it better or worse than yourself. I am not sure which this is.

I just buy guns online. Usually it is so much less that even after the cost of the transfer it is still cheaper. To me it works out much better then driving all over town and dealing with stupid salesmen.

Common sense says this but the employees directed him to go online and order it. Going online he discovered the orange display, Unavailable Online!
Common sense out the window.
It appeared to have something to do with the employees repeating some new training to state that they market over 6700 guns.
Apparently this is overwhelming for the company and employees.

I agree.

I've always had good luck going in there. Each time I have a gun in mind it's on the shelf and cheaper than on budsgunshop. My girlfriend jokes that I never leave without a new rifle. Sounds like I'm a lucky one. Cabelas is always WAY higher than what I see in sportsman's. Though some of those employees are just there to make a buck and have no clue. Luckily my local store has 2 guys who are always working the day I come in and they both are excellent with firearms and ammo. My favorite sporting goods store around here easily.

Sportsmans shelves a few years back were bare as a large number of their suppliers had not been paid. Those that would still do business with them required payment before any shipments. Employees of course weren't allowed to tell customers this. Easiest way to know if they are current with a supplier is ask if they can order something for you. If they encourage you to order it yourself there is a good chance they are still behind in money owed. If not your just left waiting until something already ordered comes in. They can't get it for you.

I visit the one in SC when I go by and have gotten to know some of the counter workers over the past several years...mainly by talking about hunting and seeing how their hunts had gone. The guys and lady I talk with usually can get something transferred from another store, unless it's a high demand or sale item, or will let me know when the next shipment is due and set one aside for me. Keep in mind all the employees are 40+ years old and are doing this for a side job or money to support their shooting/hunting habit. Try calling the next closest store and talking with the counter manager and see if they can send what you're looking for to your store. I also agree their prices have gone up over the last year.

I have only bought one new gun from a local dealer in probably 15 years. They usually do not have what I am looking for and it is ALWAYS a lot more money. Sales tax around here is 7 to 8%, add that on just about any gun and it will cover the cost of shipping and transfer. But, online I find prices greatly better.
Find it online and go for it, its almost always cheaper.

6724 that's what I did a couple times but Washington charges $35-50 transfer fees(stupidest 594 law) and they charge tax and usually I get shipping free but yeah. They make it so there's a lot of extras to buying a gun no matter how we do it. I got a savage from a dude and the shop even charged me tax on the shipping because Washington charges for the whole receipt. 7.8-8.8% tax.

I don't know when tax became a real issue here. I assume it came into effect with the new transfer law.
Frustrating and expensive.
