For $229, I think I got a good buy on it and for a spotter under $300, I would heartily recommend it to anyone..

In their price bracket and general usage market they are a very good buy

Well... How about these targets? The first one is 3 shots with a 7 mag. Nowhere near 3/4" holes per shot. All 3 are barely over 1/2" I was measuring to the outside of the green.

This target was shot by my friend with his 22-250. They measure .230 to the outside of the green. Pretty darn close to 223 and far from .750!

This pic was pulled of his Facebook with my iPhone.

Thanks guys.

This IS NOT my testing...its exerpts from someone elses tests.
"Zeiss DiaScope 85 T* FL Straight Spotting Scope "

This was the scope that tested the best from the pages that was so graciously pointed out to ALL of us. Able to see bullet holes at 500M AND BEYOND...price??
$2399.oo without an eyepiece!!! When I said really good optics are $$$ I know what Im talking about.
( I have camera lenses that were ALMOST that $$)

.45 ACP makes larger. .44 mag makes a heck of a splat too. The size of the "splat" is ALWAYS larger than the bullet diameter to begin with. And in the beginning we were discussing HOLE SIZE not "splat" sizes.

Seems like lots of people that dont know JACK **** about glass...resolution...magnification..or lines per millimeter become EXPERTS once an argument starts. And usually when a so-called expert calls someone a liar .

Go out and spend your $$ boys..dont matter to me ..I'VE GOT MINE!

Oops you said splash ,not splat !

I see guys shooting 3-400 yds with 45's and 44's.. all the time..lol Wasnt the splash comment about shooting those distances with shootnsee Targets?

I have an Idea.. after reading an earlier post, After seeing the prices, why not set the spotter up about half way to the target? You could get by with half the price of the optics. Just set yer buddy about 3ft to one side, you remain behind the rifle "bolt open of course" Then you chamber a round, making sure that your Buddy has a different shirt than the target, and he can spot for you. Makes sense to me.

For a lot less than $2,800.00 I'd set up a video camera a few feet from the target with a wireless patch and a TV or laptop on the bench.

I have the cam and the laptop... How much would the wireless stuff cost?

If you do a Google search, you may find several different price points and some will depend on how handy you are with electronics...

The last one I found was about $170 for a complete set up that was reported to be good for 200 yards...The camera had it's own deflector for protection of the camera...

Hmm, now THAT'S a good piece of advice.

I'm sure sully will debunk this with his great knowledge, but I can personally say I can see 22cal holes at 300yards with a buddies Konus 20-60x80. You may not be able to see it all the time in all conditions but if they are decent it's no problem. This is in a white target. If you get into color or especially black you can only see the holes if conditions are good.

When conditions are favorable it's not out of the norm to be able to see hits in white out the ~500 yards with a spotter in the $400+ range. You might not be able to distinquish .22 v/s .24 call holes, but you won't have to walk down to see hits...

I've looked through MANY spotters over the years as several people have them set up at matches & such. Most guys are very polite to let you "take a peek". The high end spotters by all means give a more bright, clear, & sharp image. However, if conditions are bad (mirage is worst) you'll never see it no matter what you paid for it. I remember one match in paticular (no spotters were allowed but I was using a 42 power scope). You couldn't see squat @ 300 yards but about an hr later when we shot 500, hits in the white were easy to see. A half decent spotter on 50-60x should easily see holes in the white @ 300. I've got to were I just use a peel & stick dot for aim on white paper (you can get 500 3/4" dots @ dollar store for a buck). If it's in the white you see it in about any condition. If you don't see the bullet hole in the white that means it was a good shot!!!

And thats the reason why $2500-3000 scopes are made...because you can see just as good with a $400 spotting scope!...

Half of you make LESS that good sense!

Well said.

Most spotting scopes in the $300 range will see 22 bullet holes in the white at 300+ yards.

$10,000 scopes will NOT see 22 bullet holes at 300 yds in mirage.

Thanks for your support Sully, I knew you would come through with your keen sense, minimal experience & careless judgment. You should take a month off from posting, read more on the internet (gain comprehension through others becasues you could care less about getting the experence yourself) & then you might can start commenting with some type of insight other than just random thoughts... or the way you "think" it should be.

I never said a $400 scope was as good as a $2500. Go back & read my post Originally Posted By: coleridge The high end spotters by all means give a more bright, clear, & sharp image. looking back that should say "sharper".

I simply said -- you can see hits @ 300+ with a $400 spotter (or comparable) in decent conditions. That is not opinion; it's pure fact!

Thanks guys.

If you are picking out a mule deer's ear in the grass at 800 yards, or if your going to be rough on the equipment, you need to spend more than $300 bucks. If all you want to do is see bullet holes @ 300 yards (& you take care of your unit) I would absolutly reccomend the Konus 20-60x80 in minimal price range. If you want to spend a smidge more, buy the dicontinued Vortex Skyline (same power range). If you can find one it will be ~$300 & is a dang good spotter for that price (they were originally ~$600).

PM me if you can't find one, I can put you on one; or you can find advise in sully
