Spray Paint!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think I would like the clear coat either. If it glares in the basement lights, it will glare in the sunlight. A few years ago, I was using both my rifle and Benelli SBE2. I had a coyote watching from about 600 yards so I snuck back over the hill with my rifle and left the shotgun lay in the sagebrush to go after the coyote. When I got to the place the coyote was, I wondered what was shining like a new penny back where I had been calling from. I could tell through the glasses that it was my nice camo dipped shotgun. Shiny camo may look good to the hunter but it isn't the most effective in the field. JMO.

I used some MESH also from a bath scrunchie.. and some leave from a plant.. they open up to a TUBE and like 7 feet long..

I keep looking at mine and wishing I had the guts. I guess I can always get it dipped if it looks horrible.

How does the paint feel? Is it chalky? Does it hold up well?
 
it will hold up just fine if you prep it well...when it does wear and scratch it becomes part of the camo plus you will remember the hunts when they happened.

Mine isn't chalky but will scratch off. I just dab a q-tip in the paint and touch it up. For those that are perfectionists about how their guns look it may not be the answer. I'm a function over form type.

I use duracote and mix in the flattening agent to dull it up, I haven't done my at yet but I did just do a dip on the grip stock and handguard
 
I use the Krylon UltraMattes camo paints beginning with a high quality primer coat, let dry for a day or two, buff with steel wool, then a base coat of my darker colors - olive green and brown. Then, I use a cedar branch for a stencil as I run around overcoating with the light tan. I will also hit small areas with olive green using the cedar branches and holding the can back about 14 inches just to create a shadow illusion. Finish up with a high quality hard-as-nails matte or flat clear coat to inhibit chipping and it's good to go.

Before you point it out, I did upgrade this finish to include painting the new ergo hand grip I added, the barrel and block, the scope, and the well hand grip I added.

Just finished last weekend. I used the Rustoleum.

Did you use grass as your stencil rocky? It looks a little like mossy oak shadow grass.

HA I supose I hardly answered your question. But yeah it was some fake aquarium grass, worked well once I got a hang of it. Practice on some card board and something round like scrap PVC pipe or stick/log first would have helped.
