I have more than a few of each. I personally can't feel much difference in the FA vs the lighter SA versions. If you want to control recoil impulse somewhat the adjustable gas block is a very viable option that can certainly be utilized to your advantage.
I feel the extra mass of the FA makes it feel slightly smoother, just like a a longer gas system will help, to me and does lend itself to having an increased pressure drop vs the quicker opening SA.That always helps when you are running full bore top end loads. Swipes and ejector marks are decreased somewhat.
