So last year I bought a stag model 6 varminter and as I use it it Find it way too heavy and slow to maneuver for my liking. could I have the barrel cut by my gun Smith and still retain The accuracy? The barrel is a stainless 24" 1/8 twist factory model 6 barrel. I'm thinking chop it down to 16 or 18" is it possible. Or am I better off selling the upper and buying a different upper?

I'd vote get a different upper. A 16" or 18" would be better served with a mid-length gas system than the rifle length system yours has.

So can anyone recommend a good/accurate/inexpensive/lighter upper for my stag? all my shots are under 200yds .Also any idea what my upper is worth? It has maybe 100-150 rounds through It....

I had the same issue with a RRA 20" Predator Pursuit. Rather than cutting the barrel, I went online to Joebobsoutfitters and bought a 16" RRA Coyote Carbine upper. Love it. Short, light, and it shoots great. I did not have any trouble selling the pred. Pursuit upper. Joe Bobs was great. Fast shipping and a good price.

Go to Stag's web site and look at the uppers if you like Stag. Last I checked it would be 2-3 weeks if you wanted a custom built upper or you could get one off the upper page.

I would just change out the barrel and gas system. Then sell the old parts. It makes no sense to re-buy the parts you already have.
Just order an 18" standard profile or light weight profile with a mid-length gas port, a mid-length gas tube and a .750 gas block and your ready to go. All the rest of your upper parts will interchange with the new parts.

Thanks guys those are some options I'll look into. being that I just got it a year ago and haven't shot it much I'm still a bit of a ar newbie. So far only mod I've done is a timney trigger.
