Stainless Steel or Chrome Moly barrel????

I'm trying to decide between a new RRA LAR-15 Hunter with a 16" chrome moly barrel or the RRA LAR-15 Fred Eichler model that has a 16" stainless steel barrel.... I like both the rifles and either will fit my needs/wants.... The Eichler model is actually $85 cheaper and other than the camo on the Hunter the barrels are the only other significent difference...

Can anyone shed some objective thoughts about either/both???

The arguements for Stainless Vs. Non for longevity really is overblown IMO. As long as you aren't getting the barrels hot, and don't have unrealistic expectations on accuracy; There is no difference.

Honestly, in my life I have only personally seen 1, YES, 1 barrel that was honestly shot-out. USUALLY the issue is overheating, fouling, wear from cleaning rods rubbing the bore.

Buy the one that gives you the warmest fuzzy feeling.

Personally I always lean toward the SS barrel.
Reasons:
Less prone to rust
Clean easier
Usually the bore is finished nicer, makes for better accuracy
Small scratches buff right out
Slower to build heat and cools faster
And their Shiny

Of course thats not a good thing when hunting, but a spot of paint cures that

Just my personal views, YMMV
For all practical purposes either will serve just fine
 
The most accurate barrels I've ever shot have all been stainless.

That's possibly just a coincidence, but they sure sell a lot of stainless match barrels.

I get half MOA out of my chromoly AR 24"

I dont think the average shooter is going to see much of a difference... Well they will see a huge difference when the sun bounces of that dang polished SS. Ive got one high quality SS barrel for F-class had to pay extra to paint it black what the heck?
 
I don't see any differance in accuracy between the two. And with a premium bbl, there isn't much differance in clean up. The rust prevention is my number 1 reason for SS.
 
Kreiger states that each barrel is just as accurate as they are.There is no measurable accuracy difference and they ought to know. I also buy stainless just for corrosion protection and looks. Good luck with your purchase.
 
I have stainless and chrome moly rifles and like them both.
Stainless steel can and does rust like other forms of metal but it is more forgiving in that regard but when rust shows up it's harder to get rid of vs chrome moly.
I have never noticed any difference in accuracy between the two.
I say buy the one you want the most and enjoy it.
 
Also, you don't have to spray paint that nice ss. The camo wraps work great and I can change into snow camo when the season changes. Spraying paint on my ss barell makes me cringe.

I have the stainless on my Predator Pursuit, and my kid has the Chrome-moly H-bar on his Coyote. They both are great rifles, Flip a coin.
 
I like stainless but have some really great blued chrome moly that shoot very well. Go with the Eichler model 1st because it's cheaper OR go which ever one is available the soonest.
