Steel Shot???

Nice boat!
For ducks my 2 partners use 3 1/2" #2. I use 3" #4 or #6 Hevi Shot. We kill the same ducks at the same ranges. I don't have nearly as many cripples. My ducks tend to have more usable meat as we eat most unless they are blown up or getting mounted. I have notice that they're #2 steel does penetrate well, but patterns are thin.

Unless I'm using steel I don't need 3 1/2" for ducks. I wouldn't use the steel on predators. If steel #2's can barely kill a 35 yard 1 Lb. duck. I don't see how any steel could humanly kill a 45+ Lb. coyote.

Sell the steel to duck hunters and get lead or hevi shot for the predators. As Ackleyman suggested, shoot the plywood with steel VS lead at different distances. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Many guys have reported problems getting 2 steel to pattern well in a 12ga., and have gone to either 3's or 1's for big ducks. 1's work best on big ducks if you have enough pellets in your pattern to fill it out. But, that usually means about 1 3/8 oz. loads of them, or heavier, unless you use a tight patterning choke.

I have used loads as light as 1 1/16 oz. with 1's. And, while they are duck killers, the low pellet count limits your effective range with them to about 40 yards, even with a tight patterning choke, one which will deliver 80%+ patterns at 40 yards.
