Steroids, Videotapes and Congress--Does this bug anyone else?

After seeing an ESPN story Sunday morning about Arlen Spector wanting to open an investigation into the New England Patriots, my BS meter redlined!

Does anyone really care what George Mitchell found out about steriods in baseball? Does anyone care if Barry Bonds grows another leg, or if Roger Clemens' gonads fall off?

Now, we need to spend tax payer dollars on finding out if and when Bill Belichek knew the Patriots were taping the other team?

I follow baseball and watch football, but if they ceased to exist, would the sun stop rising in the East?

I have emailed my Congressman and Senator, and also emailed Senator Spector, (his hometown is Russell, Kansas, by the way), and let him know that there were other pending issues that were a tad more important than this, like, say, closing the borders and immigration for example.

My take on this is that they love to see themselves on camera and on Constantly Negative News, (CNN).

Am I missing something here? Is this important, or am I turning into a curmudgeon at 46? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

You are not the only one!!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif Investigating sports is NOT the role of government. The sports industry should police themselves. Congress fiddles while the rest of the country goes down the rat hole. Imo, there are 545 people in D.C. who are non-functionally brain dead. Problem is, they THINK they know what is best for you and I while they march to their own drummer. A shameful group for sure, no wonder the approval rating for them is in the tank. They don't give a rats behind either /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif.

The reason our legislators have to hold all these hearings on non-governmental stuff is due to the fact that most of them are COWARDS....

We have serious problems like Illegal Immigration, Open Borders, Economy in the Tank, Out Sourced Jobs/Production, Social Security, etc. and they are too afraid to tackle those subjects with an eye to getting things corrected and protecting our sovereignty...

It wouldn't be Politically Correct....

A lot more problems to be addressed for the protection of this country of ours.
Yes, we have a cowardly congress & next year it will be even more so.
We all can take responsibility for this situation.
 
Does it need to be investigated by the government? ABSOLUTELY not!!!!! However, I am a huge baseball fan(I mean HUGE) and I cannot stomach the Idea of Aaron's record falling due to a needle /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif That man was as honest and talented as the day is long. I want an investigation, and I want the real records to stand until broken by someone who is equally talented and honest. As far as I'm concerned the record for homers in a season is still 61. One of the greatest things I've ever seen on tv was a banner held by a fan at a Giants game that read "The Babe did it on hotdogs and beer" /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I think it is quite pathetic. IT IS A GAME. Its just something to make it look like they are actually doing something.

I, like you, am a huge fan, (my KC Royals suck, but I still love 'em), but not as big a fan as I used to be after the strike.

I agree with you, Hammerin' Hank was a class act. I was an eager 13 year old trying to get the rabbit ears to make ABC come in clearer in 1974 when he hit #715 off Al Downing, remember it like it was yesterday!

Although I agree that these investigations are a total waste I did recently hear something that did shed a bit of light on things.

Major league sports such as the NFL, MLB, NBA, etc are given a congressional monopoly, meaning no other association can move in and create a competing league. For this reason they are held accountable to Congress. If they are found doing things they shouldnt then the monopoly agreement could be removed to allow others to compete with them.

Doesn't exactly make me agree with Congress sticking their noses into things but it was the first time I heard a reason as to WHY they were.
