Not so fast! Savage/Stevens changed thier short actions a couple of years ago. If what you have is the older, stagger feed. It will measure 4.275" between the action screws. If it is a new center feed it will measure 4.40 center to center. I know that you just bought the gun, but there are still some older model NIB out there.

Sharp Shooter Supply has several models of laminate stocks availiable for either style, as does Boyds. Stackade has synthetic stocks for either and Bell and Carlson has staggered feed stocks and is coming out with centerfeed, but I don't know if anyone has them in stock yet. The important thing is to know your screw spaicng when ordering.

Don't listen to BrentWin, next thing you know, your rifle will be camoed and the barrel will be 4inchs shorter!! Just kidding of course!!

Uhm...I was speaking from a position of ignorance with vague generalities sprinkled in. Look how you've gone and educated me....

Thanks for the tip! While I didn't know what you've pointed out, I figured his was a newer one like mine.

I learn something new every day! Thanks!

It is the new center feed model I guess. Just measured the 2 action screws on my caliper and it was 4.440" on the nose.

Thanks for the info. I dont know crap about savages.

I'm gonna look through some laminate stocks and maybe pick one out. I need a new trigger to. Dont they make accu trigger that you can replace it with?

No, the accutrigger required different milling be done to the receiver. Get a Sharp Shooter Competion trigger. They are really easy to install and are an excellent trigger.

Actually, I have a 243 barrel that is sitting waiting to be chopped to 18". I am just trying to decide if I also want to AI it.

Even the Savage factory is trying to get in on the game. Just compare the pics.

Mine looks like a twin to yours Brent. Cammo is just a bit different. OH SO SWEET!! Its the cheepest rifle I own and probably my most favorite.

Nice grouping out a of "cheap" rifle! I have to tell ya, I have the same rifle and the same results. I also figured it would be a good beater for the truck, but this thing can shoot. It's still my beater for the truck, but how lucky can ya get to score such a inexpensive rifle that really does shoot where you point it.

I noticed you were getting 4000 fps out of your 58 vmax's, it will be interesting to see what they do on impact on a critter.
