Steyr AUG for 'yotes anyone?

I have a Steyr AUG I'd like to try on coyotes here in S. Nevada. Anyone tried that firearm on them yet? I'm limited to a 1.5 X scope moulded into the reciever.

I think it is a great idea. If I could pick one up in a trade for my AR15 I would do it in an instant but my main reason is to keep the OAL length down while running a suppressor and staying out of SBR land (Can hunt with a Suppressor but no hunting with SBR in my state).

As I see it

Pro's

Short OAL
Reliable, gas pitson (Has been combat proven)
proven caliber
Cheaper to shoot than some others
low recoil
Center of balance

Con's

1.5 scope - For me the scope didn't work very well

Heavy - although well balanced the rifle itself is heavier than comparable ar15's

No Forward Assist (unless it's a MSAR stg) so you can't quietly load a round like on an AR15 AFAIK

Unusual magazine changes due to bullpup design. (I don't remove my magazine unless I am unloading the rifle because I don't have to reload on coyotes ....... If I can't get it with 20-30 rounds then I have other issues)

Less aftermarket support than other platforms - (This might not matter if it fits and does everything you want it to)

Not as accurate as an AR15 (usually....there are exceptions)

Original trigger is pretty bad (although there is a sweet after market trigger pack from Ratworx).

I have only read one article where the guy used a AUG pattern rifle for coyotes and he liked it even with 1.5 MOA accuracy he was able to hit a coyote.

If you do use it be sure to post pictures and a review.

Good luck!

Frankr pretty much summed it up. Every con he hit right on the money. Especially the trigger, they are horrible. Bullpups sure look cool and I've always wanted one just to have one.

The one I fired had a holographic sight that I couldn't seem to "get along" with, relegating it to "urban warfare, or even, alley sweeping" usefulness (in my hands).

My buddy has an MSAR, and my understanding is it's the same as an AUG. He has a tangodown bipod where each leg clips onto a bit of pic rail on each side. His rifle is good for 1moa, and we've done a lot of load development on it. I theorize the 1/2 turn lockup of the barrel into the receiver robs a bit of accuracy.
