Stock for my Mohawk

After seeing some of the really nice composite stocks posted here, I'm thinking maybe taking my 600 Mohawk to the next level and adding a nice composite stock to the build. Is there anyone who makes a nice, moderately priced stock for the Mohawk? I haven't had much luck finding anything yet. I haven't got to check with Bell and Carlson or H-S Precision yet.

I have one on my 600, it too is a good fit and much stiffer than a Savage or Rem factory synthetic stock. I believe it is heavier than the wood stock I had on it. The rifle seems to shoot better than with the wood stock also.

I saw the Ramline but would like to get something better. My factory stock is in really good condition and I just put eight coats of Tru-oil on it. I just see the Mickeys and get big ideas. My original plan was to keep it looking factory, with a custom barrel. There's not a lot of options as of yet. I tried to get Boyd's to make me a factory stock with AAA walnut but they wouldn't do it.

If you want moderately priced that looks good the Ramline with a little work, scrape the mould lines, Round off the sharp edges ànd give it a personalized paint job and it will look like a top of the line custom. Anything else your pretty much going to have to dig deep in your pockets as they just didn't make enough of the little Rems to warrant production of custom stocks.

Their are some custom makers that will make a çustom synthetic stoçk for it but again you have to dig deep.

I had a Ramline on a 788 years ago. It was a decent stock for sure. I'll give them a look again. It may be the only option I have or can afford.
I did a google search and went to the Ramline sight. Seems they are not available there either. My factory wood stock looks good now that I refinished it, just with the new barrel coming, I had this vision of something looking kinda special and different than the other 600's. Income will have a major effect on what I get, (or don't get). I may just have to be content with what I have.

Just a thought - the 600/660 action is the same as the XP-100, AND has bunch of similarities to the Model 7, if not the same action and bolt design, save the handle - so much so I've interchanged a bolt between my 600 and a & I had for a short while - the bolt seemed to lock up fine, but of course I didnt fire it, nor checked for headspacing. Dont recall if I had a stock on it when I did that or not, but a Model 7 stock MAY work.....esp if you can get Boyds or someone to do one without the bolt notch milled in?? Bbl contour will prob be different, but they should be able to give you what you want there too. Bottom metal, trigger location, etc are all issues to look at too. Again, just a thought.......

I was wondering about maybe using a Model 7 or xp. I have a friend with a Model 7, I may have to see if he will let me try. Maybe an ADL version????

I'm not sure but I don't think the Model 7 came in an ADL version and I don't know if you've priced model 7 bottom metal lately but OUCH. Brownells had some Model 7 blemished actions on sale without bottom metal, by the time I would have barreled it and p bottom metal it was way more than a whole Model 7.

I think it was a co. called Williams made a steel bottom metal/trigger guard for the 600's as a replacement for the junk plastic original......I'm thinking it wa around 470 +s/h? Not sure about inletting on the bottom vs Model 7, or how an adl option might work out with the original mag box/spring/follower.

I'd try that buddy's 7 stock out first and see what you think. Mine wears an old Fajen Mannlicher-style now - looks sweet, but is a tank for the size.

I found a guy that has trigger guards for the 600's. They're made of aluminum and anodized black for about $80. I ordered one and the fit and finish was great. Now I have a good trigger guard and a nice factory stock. May just have to leave well enough alone.
