Stock options for a Savage 12FV?

Been checking the options for a new stock on my Savage 12FV 22-250. It is the older version without accu-trigger. I tried a B&C Durramax (did not like fit or feel). I would prefer a better quality. What are the options out there for a synthetic stock? How do the Stockade brand stocks rate?

Any suggestions appreciated,
HS

Never tried the Medalist, but if it is anything like the Duramax, I'll pass. I had to grind & scrape on the B&C stock I purchased in order to fit. After bedding it still had too much flex in the forearm. Never was happy with it. I also wanted a tad wider forearm. I have a couple of HS stocks on hunting rifles & I love them. May look into the HS stocks for Savage if they make one. The Stockade looks to be good quality, may go that route.

Thx,
HS

richards micro fit and boyds are popular custem stock makers you might be able to make the stock your self out of wood and send it to richards microfit

never heard of Stockade though any oen got a link?

Sounds like your into plastic. I've had very good luck with Richards laminate stocks and they come in not only a variety of patterns, but they for a small charge will leave extra wood anywhere you want it to customize it.

Here's the link.

You replied to me, but I didn't know if you were asking the original poster or not....I prefer the classic lines of a blued rifle wrapped in a fine piece of wood, but I am generally hard on my rifles and the synthetic's fare my abuse much more readily than does a nice chunk of wood. You should see what my Citori O/U looks like...it would probably make some folks cry /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The B&C medalist line of varmint stocks are several cuts above the Duramax. I have ordered a number for a friend and all were very well finished and fit extremely well. The Duramax and Carblites were junk in my opinion. I have had good results with several of the Boyds stocks also.

I picked up a Choate Super Varmint for my 12FLVSS at a gun show this weekend. It seems to be well made, although it's pretty heavy. It has a full length aluminum bedding block and wide forend. My rifle dropped right in with no problems.

The Medalist is a better stock than the Duramaxx, but it's still a B&C. http://www.bellandcarlson.com/

I like the John Okubo stocks from Elk Ridge myself, as well as the Richards Micro-Fit stocks. But you are probably looking for a drop not one you will have to inlet, bed, and finish.

If you love H&S stocks, then just go with the H&S. I have several of the on my tactical and varmint rifles and you just can't go wrong with an H&S stock.

Yes, I prefer a synthetic on this rifle, it gets plenty of abuse. I also love a nice piece of wood & blued metal, but not on this one. Not sure how to see what is available in the HS line for Savage or even where to order. My other 2 HS stocks were for Rem 700's, so you can order them anywhere. Must you call HS direct for a Savage stock? I'm leaning toward the "Woodchuck" model from Stockade.

Thanks for all the help guys,
HS
