Stoeger Uplander

I was in a local shop yesterday and the guy had a Uplander 28 gauge that caught my eye. I picked it up and brought it up a couple times and it seems like a descent enough gun. There was a couple places on the stock where it seems like the finishing job at the factory was less than ideal, the recoil pad didn't actually fit on the stock correctly(kinda hung over the actual stock) but for $349 it isn't anything I couldn't live with(the pad can probably be fixed) I have always wanted another 28 and the price wont break the bank, I wont be shooting 100s of rounds a week through it, mainly just to go out and shoot some clay pigeons here and there and maybe some real birds if the chance comes up. I was wondering what you guys experience with this gun was?? Thanks

Personally, I think they're junk. Not well built, many times ejector issues, galling, and crappy triggers.

For an entry level O/U I don't know that I would go below a Browning, Beretta or SKB. Maybe even a Verona.

And I'm sure someone is going to come along and say they shoot trap or skeet with their Stoeger and beat all the "big dollar" shooters. But I've never seen it happen.

I had one Stoeger 12ga that I shot for awhile..The only issue I had with it was the barrel selector (internal) broke and I had to send it in for repair...Warranty service was good and I had it back in about a week...

Shot several rounds of 100 sporting clays with it with no other problems..Sold it to get an O/U with manual barrel selector and a better choke system on it..

My experiance with Stoeger is just plain BAD.
I bought a combo 12/20 set 4 yrs ago and within the 1st box of 12 ga it FTF 6x. With the 20 ga bbls on it FTF 3x.
This was a brand new combo I bought.
I sent it back & waited 6 weeks, they sent it back "fixed" and after 6 shells it doubled fired (both bbls same time!) I never was so POd when that happened in my life.
I sent it back again & waited 8 weeks, they sent me a complete new boxed combo & I promly sold it w/out even putting it together & trying it out. I was pretty POd w/Stoger by that time & will never own another Stoeger.
I had all my issues posted on the Stoeger site also.
Leave it at the gun shop IMO.

Thanks guys for the replies, kinda what I was expecting, I have read a little on them over the years(some good some bad) just thought I would run it by the guys here.

Stoeger imported some side by side shotguns back in the 1960s, I seem to remember one of them being called the uplander, they were made in Spain by various makers and were of good quality. I have owned one of them since around 1966 and have had no problems with it. I believe it was made by Sarasqueta in Eibar, Spain.

I bought a stoeger condor 20gauge brand new this year to use pheasant hunting and shot plenty of birds with it. But at the end of the year i noticed a small barrel bulge by the choke tubes and sent it back to get a new one at no cost to me. So while they may not be the best guns, they do work good and their customer service seems to be good as well
