Straight or angled spotting scope ?

From the bench straight is the only way to go.If you use the angled eyepiece you have to stand up to see down range.

I think it depends on how you intend to use it at the bench...Some Benchrest shooters mount the scope on a vertical pole that attaches to the side of their bench and once set and adjusted, all they have to do is to swivel their head slightly to see their target...In that case, the angled eye piece gives them a little more room...

People that are acting as 'spotters' for bench shooters seem to be equally divided between comfort of standing and looking straight on, or bending the neck a little and being able to watch other activities while not actually spotting..Some tripods will not give enough elevation to use a straight scope comfortably..

Lining up and focusing the scope with the straight eyepiece usually takes a little less time than an angled one..

I really prefer the straight eyepiece for bnech shooting or spotting game. It takes me a lot less time to get on target, stay on target, and focus.

I prefer straight. At the range it is on a tripod on the bench. Spotting from the truck it is mounted on the window. There are a few times times the angle may be nice but most of the time I prefer the straight.

I have used them both and i also prefer the straight eyepiece , much easier for me to find the target.

I prefer the staight for my main scope. Easier to run from the truck. But I do use an angle for bench and indoor target pistol. If I did a lot of spotting while standing up. The angled seems to give less eye strain.

Straight for the bench.

Angle for the field: I can keep the scope lower to the ground on a short tripod. Long range spotting.

Binoculars: work everywhere.
