Sub-Sonic 22 cal ammo

If you get a yote close enough for the sub sonic to possibly be effective the you would probally be better off grabbing the rifle by the dangerous end and clubbing him. I have used these rounds in handguns they will not cycle my p22 semi auto, but I really did not expect them to. They have a use but not on anything the size of a yote. My Aguila Super Colibri's are 20 grn. and have a warning on the back of the box that says they are only for handguns, I think that there is a danger of the bullet not clearing the barrel of a rifle with the possibility of firing another round into it.

I have not used the Aguilas I have used several others RWS Remington Winchester (no long made). My faverite is made by Eley "subsonic hollow points" the single best 22LR load out there. They are very quite and shoot well in bolt rifles.May I should say faverite squirrel load. I dispacted yotes in steel traps this year, with them they worked fine. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Coyotes in steel traps at a range of a few feet aren't what the original poster asked about. He mentioned coyotes at 100 YARDS and under. Also, and extremely important, coyotes coming to the call don't offer the same shot presentation as a motionless coyote pinned to within a few feet by a chain and looking directly at you as in a trap. Coyotes responding to a call are moving, often through cover, the head is one of the most animated parts of the body, you are shooting from field shooting positions and trying for exacting and surgical placement of such a tiny amount of lead and energy in the only place that will anchor the coyote for you - the brain pan. Common sense boys, common sense... stay focused. Call and kill a few and it will become obvious what the conditions are and how irresponsible this sort of thinking is.

The shooter and his/her rifle must become "one" and he/she knows the bullet trajectory for a given distance. The SSS 60g will take deer size animal inside 100 yards w/ proper bullet placement. The point here w/ the SSS is that when used inconjunction w/ a suppressor only noise herd is bullet impact which will not scare off other potential targets. Sometimes the noise where the bullet hits gets the animal running towards the shooter which I have experienced. I have shot 40g subs but the 60 SSS has more punch.

Some people hunt, some target shoot, the hunter knowing what his bullet's velocity/energy would give him the knowledge of his bullet's performance. I like to take game humanly, 22lr suppressed rifle using subsonic ammo requires proper shot placement and knowing how much energy the bullet will give on impact at a given range. It matters little w/ high velocity but significant to subs.

Please excuse my ignorance of your ZENness, however, Bullshizzle. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif Honestly, how many coyotes have you called to the gun and successfully closed the deal on? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

I once taken a fox at 70yds thru the front neck using CCI 40gr subs hollowpoint 22lr, it dropped on the spot. I have taken a deer w/ 45-70 thru the boiler room it ran 80yds before it ran out of steam. I also taken deer w/ suppressed 22lr 60g SSS thru the boiler room but it jumped 5ft walked away 7ft slowly and droped. I not saying it's ok to use 22 but the point is when the deer/or other is not frightened by gunshot it will not take off running wild.

Soooo, no coyotes, huh? Noise from the gunshot is the least of worries when calling a coyote.

Silentbang, capital WOW!!! I'm not sure if I need to feed you or not, but here goes

1) I wasn't aware that it was legal to kill deer with a 22lr or a supressed weapon.

I sure hope people don't associate you with this community!!

2) As GC pointed out to you very nicely, what does any of your posts have to do with this topic. Go back to the top and re-read the question.

3) Once again, you are amazing, and well I'll leave it at that.

I sure hope no PETA members find your posts.

I never said it was ever ligit to hunt w/ a 22 w/ a suppressor, my point is that a well placed shot w/ a suppressed 22 is leathal inside 100yds on a deer. The SSS 60g ammo has the energy to deliver. Yes it is a flying slug and that the shooter must know the bullet's trajectory in order to land. I enjoy the challange of hunting small game when the odds are against me and the only edge I have is a quiet rifle.

A classic case of a post that needs to disappear for the better good. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Why don't "we" just ban all rounds that anyone dosen't think we should use..................

I have used a bunch of subsonic 22lr's for critter control around the house. M.39-A, brain shots, 100% dead.

Doubleclutch, I think those rnds have a purpose. For small animals about the house.

But, they are not for predator hunting, and certainly not for deer hunting as Silentbang has done.

I wouldn't call shooting a deer with a suppressed .22LR hunting. Where I live they call that something else.....
