Subsonic .22 loads

CCI is the only company that I know of that still makes the CB shorts. Try'm; you'll like'm. And, of course, you may be able to find some of the old, excellent Win. and Rem. CB short loads in Mom & Pop shops here and there.

I made a homemade silencer and shoot rem. sub sonic ammo and its just like in the movies..a small sssppttt..and that it..til the bullet makes the thud...lol..

So if you wanted to use them in a 10/22 you can use both the long and shorts, but you have to put them in individually? How does this work if your gun is chambered for long rifle 22 shells? I've never heard of this, but I know we have a stray cat getting into our garbage cans and I'm not too happy about it.

Check www.rimfirecentral.com you will find info on the short conversion for the 10/22. There is a lot of indication on that site that it is a rather expensive conversion subject to a high rate of jamming and FTF. I would stick with the remington subsonic or aguilla SSS subsonic and a lighter spring for your bolt.

CCI also makes a CB long cartridge that would work single fire.

Good Luck and Good Hunting

Alright sorry guys, its been a long week and I'm not thinkin straight. So if I take a single CCI CB Long and put it in the chamber it should shoot. Again sorry about not getting the concept right away.

I just bought a brick of these to try them out. They are definally quieter but far from being stealth like I wanted. Im sure my expectations were too high.

yes! but you have to feed them in one at a time and hand eject them one at a time I shoot CB short in my 10/22 when I'm snipeing in the back yard. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

i guess a "brick" should be 10, 50 rnd. boxes of ammo. 500 rnds total. the last 22 shorts i bought were Win. and they were louder than cheap 22 LR's. i used a couple boxes while trapping, firing them in a 6" bbl revolver, they made more noise than the cheap LR's you can buy at walmart for $5.00/550 rnds. they were Federal 22's. they shoot good in my rifle, too.

redsnow;

The regular shorts are sharp as heck in their report, as they are hi-vel loads. The CB Shorts certainly aren't. Little, if any, difference in use, but marked difference in report.

I wouldn't recommend anyone breaking the law but will mention that a crossbow is almost totally silent in comparison to most firearms, rarely illegal to shoot and will take out almost any "varmint", right up to coyotes, feral dogs, and deer with ease. On the lighter critters it completely passes through so if they escape they aren't carrying your bolt (or other projectile) back home.

You need a good backstop so your bolts don't go on to do "collateral damage".

Also the Hav-A-Hart traps are nearly silent unless trapped yard lions squall. Slip 'em quietly into your trunk and "relocate" or dispatch with your favorite method in remote locations... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Note: It's not just against the law but in many states and municipalities it's a serious felony to kill or harm people's pets!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Hell son, in Manti just about anything goes right? I would think the "town" aspect is the least of your worries. After all, 4 houses, a corral, and a bar don't make a city anymore! Lol....go for it my friend!

bigc, right on! We have some softy neighbors though, but they may not recognize a .22 crack, its that bad! My neighbor to the north encouraged me to shoot 'em though, he was a cool guy. I have some jaw traps so when they go down into the culverts in the field...I was trappin' coons will be my excuse, no harm there right? bobc, where do you live?

I was antelope huntin' in Wyoming a couple of years back, and when reading the rule book I noticed that one thing you could shoot without a speical tag were cats. I ran into a Game Warden and asked him how they tell the difference between a wild cat and a domestic one. His answer "If it ain't on the front porch, it's wild".

1. In my town, it is illegal to shot a firearm, OK, I am an adult breaking the law.
2. I use CCI CB Longs, CB is Conical Ball, Long, not long rifle.
3. Have to load singles.
4. Has Crack about as loud as pellet gun.
5. 25-30 yds DEADLY on squirrels.
6. Have a M69 Romanian Trainer w/ Simmons zeroed for this round at backdoor.
7. No squirrel or other varmint gets away!

Utahpredator_7,

I use Aguila SSS in my little .22LR bolt action for cats. I've shot plenty of them---the only problem is that you have to know the distance exactly and what range you're zeroed for. The Aguila SSS has quite the trajectory but those 60-gr pills hit real hard. I nailed a black cat with one and it went sky high and flopped. Great stuff. I've used the CBs---you have to be real close in order to do much with them. One advantage of using these rounds is that the animals don't tend to bleed much. A little dribble from the mouth with no VISIBLE entry wound. For me, any cat farther than 50 feet from its house is a feral one---they make great hunting during the summer nights. The round report sounds like an airgun---I've had people tell me they never even heard my rifle go off. He! He! Love that subsonic stuff. I've lost enough birds, etc. to the devils so I have no problem keeping the cat population down.

By the way, you're located in my neck of the woods. I'm in Sanpete County too. I'd be interested in hearing from you about your cat or coyote hunting experiences. If you want to check something out that's pretty cool---go to the WalMart in Richfield. Their Hunting Dept. has some neat pictures of Coyote hunting. The manager must be a coyote hunter himself.

I've used Remington .22 subsonics on racoons that were eating dog food in the backyard. Although I only took one shot, I nailed the racoon in the head, end of story.
