made it out again. this time i had some success. had 4 spots lined up and i hit this one first. limbhanger10 and i hunted this spot a week ago and the coyotes were across the street over the hill but sounded close. we had to leave the field we were in and quickly walk down the road to the next field, get creative and try again, they replied but wouldnt come in, i dont think they really liked the wind direction and would have had to circle way to far.
this nite it was the opposite. i went by myself and set up in the second location we did last week. but this time they were on the same side of the road as me, behind me and to my left...way behind me. i thought "no way are they coming this far".
short time later they started being vocal again but closer and almost behind me. i thought "oh crap, they are going to the field across the road from the truck", this would be the first set up we did last week. i got creative, grabbed the tripod / gun, crossed the road, went into the field, grabbed the call and tried to get down the road to the field they were headed for.
as i was getting closer a coyote howled from the field "they beat me" and i only had 35 yards to go. what to do? i set the call down on the berm of the road and walked closer to the field scanning as i went. it howled again, looking for me and it sounded close, REAL CLOSE. when i cleared the brush at the edge of the field i spotted the coyote on the opposite edge of the field about 400 or so yards away, so much for close
i got ready and did a pup howl on the call and the coyote started coming in, i went quiet and let it get about 120 or so yards away all the while i am mentally asking it to stand still, when it stood still, i dropped it right there. entire hunt was probably about 40 minutes or so.
two other spots produced vocals but no sightings. the one spot produced nothing.
