Success rate for calling in predators?

The way I calculate success = total number of coyotes called in per stand. So, if I call a triple into one stand, that helps the success rate. Anyway, my best guess would be about 40% or more success. BTW, it would be a lot less kill success if I didn't have the foxpro.

Hey this aint even funny but I think I am in the negative percentages. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Does that mean I owe the coyotes????? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif

Ditto here in NY. I think I've had some responses (e.g., heard trotting at night, but no eyes seen, spooked deer running TOWARDS me, gray squirrels/blue jays chattering like crazy in the distance, fresh coyote tracks in the snow that turned at sharp angles AWAY from me,... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif), but I have yet to see anything this season. I guess I've made about 25 stands this season with 18 of my stands during the day and 7 at night.

Do owls count? I called in 3 on Saturday (Great Horned Owls). /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I just started "calling" predators just over a month ago and hope my beginner's luck will last for a long time. I am having a very high success rate right now calling coyotes around pastures with cattle. I think one thing that is helping me is that I am moving around and the predators I am hunting have never been called (no education), that is until I hunt the area and make stupid mistakes (some of my coyotes hold doctorate degrees now). /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif

i call the same ranch every weekend and as the winter go's by my success go's down then as spring approaches it picks back up.
ask me this in November and I'd be at 30%
Dec 20%
Jan 10%
Feb 20%
march 50%
Sept 50%
Oct 40%
when they react to pup in distress is when I'll get the most action because I'll know where they are at and their home area in march.
Sept i know to howl near water then hit a pup in distress for fast action by the dominate pair.
i could do better in a area without so many rabbits the coyotes have to run past 50 rabbits to get to you and there is 10 other people who are out there calling with just rabbits. don't tell any of them that a howl or two is the magic sound out there. the rabbit is just to guide the coyote to the intruder.

This is the first year in a while that I have tried calling in predators. I guess I have made about twenty stands, and have called in 1 red fox, two bobcats, five grey foxes, and no coyotes, which really sucks! Because we can only shoot coyotes with the ecaller (FX5).

Without sitting down & getting exact...I'm guessing this year was about 25%.
Out of, I think, about 72 stands...42 were dry. I went a lot of days without seeing anything.
Then, other days, I couldn't keep them away.

Well I'm new to the game so maybe some of you all can help me out. I've done about 25 stands this winter and no luck only a striped skunk. Just awful. I have a FX3 and I use the sun at my back and a downwind or crosswind setup. Full Camo the whole deal. I even wash all of my clothes in scent free soap and take a shower in scent free soap and get dressed outside! don't laugh. I killed one coyote last year, and I guess I just don't know what I'm doing wrong it is frustrating but I love it and wouldn't ever quit. Are the primos calls as good as Randy Anderson makes them look? I'm looking into purchasing a few what do you all think

I would shop around the Custom Call Makers Forums here on Predator Masters. You can get some high quality calls for reasonable prices.

By the way...welcome to PM!

My brother in law came out for a week of coyote hunting and we called in 27 coyotes in 35 stands all on public land in mid Jan. We had a couple of doubles so it's about 50%. Will be headed out over the Holliday and in the past we've averaged about 40-50% but seem to get fewer shots.

My success rate sucks....lol. Ive been at it for about 3 years. Called in a double last year and was so geeked i missed (peed a little). Then around new years this year called one in on the edge of a swamp. The only problem was the terrain dropped down to the swamp and i only saw a flash as he was leaving. I was going out pretty strong for a while but have dropped back because of all the wind. Im not ready to give up yet but i got to tell you sometimes it sure is frustrating. eagle

Hey RHPredator, do we hunt in the same area??? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif I have seen tracks in the snow in the area that I was calling but didn't see a one coyote. I really hope that I am doing something wrong, because if I am doing everything right and I have a 0%, then I am taking up bowling. I am the eternal optomist but I need to have a bone thrown to me on occassion.

I have been out alot this winter. No clue as to how many stands I have made. Called in quite a few but have only managed to get one (1) yes just one but it was my first so this year was already a success.

0 for 7 early before I had a foxpro, got a foxpro last month and I have called in 6 coyotes in 14 sets, which overall I am very happy with compared to last year.

We've called 125 stands this winter and had 69 coyotes come in to 51 stands. That puts us at about 40% or 2 positive stands for every 5 called.

I've had a pretty good year, met a couple of new hunting partners. Only been skunked a couple of times out where we did not see anything.

Stands were from 5 to 10 a day when I went out. Called in several doubles, a couple of triples and quads. Me best day was 8 stands with 7 called including a triple.

I'd have to say overall got a visual confirmation or shot on a stand 1 every 4 stands.

Anyone have any numbers in North Dakota....have called a few in but no luck yet this year. Going out this weekend for sure if weather cooperates. Hopefully it warms up a bit.

In Idaho, im 0 in 6 stands. Last year in Oregon I had great success with 1 in 5 stands with my year end total at @80 dogs, a few cats. Now with the Foxpro I am hoping the numbers increase a bit, but still cant complain

Hey moe good to hear for another canadian I hunt is
southwestern ontario also around Kitchener area. Not alot of sucess here either 0 for 7 and that is even calling on a few sundays. I do hunt with a few guys with hounds on saturdays up 52 yotes and about 10 fox with the dogs so far this year we got 7 yotes last Saturday alone, There are lots
of them beggers this year. I think up here you just have to
keep after them, they don't seem to have to travel as far
to find their vittels as they do in the west. But they do
come and when they do, there isn't any thing better than
knowin that your fooled em.
