I'm looking at AR's for yote and was just looking for some input. Which company , caliber , buy kit or one built. looking for value don't want to spend $2000 looking to spend Under $1200. Putting my leaupold Var-III 3.5-10 Prw scope on it. Thanks for Looking RJH

After quite a bit of research, I felt the Bushmaster Varminter fit the bill for me...Mine will be here tommorrow! I wanted a more practical varmit gun vs. a military style AR and chose the Varminter...Bushmaster also just came out with new AR called the Predator that looks like a Varminter with a shorter barrel...Either of these guns can be had for around a $1000...

Check the archives on this one, you might find a few hundred other posts just like yours. Armailite, Bushmaster, Colt, DPMS, RRA, Oly...they're all good. I have built two AR's on Bushy upper and lowers and they are way more accurate than I am.

I love my Bushmaster v match. I am shooting .77 inch groups at 100 yard with American Eagle(Federal) 50 grain hp. For coyotes and for the money I dont know why I would want anything better . I have killed 6 dogs in 4 days of hunting.

That new Bushmaster Predator 20 inch with an 8 twist is the way to go no doubt. It's not the same gun as the Bushy V-Match, different twist rates.

My 16" Bushmaster V-Match has taken it's share of coyotes.Carry's nice, tough as nails and easy upkeep. I also have both Olympic and RRA, can't think of anything bad about any of them.

William...tell me more about your Oly if you would please...all teh gorey details in a PM (so's not to hi-jack the thread) Thanks in advance.

Where did you get that camo job done?

I have a Bushy varmiter. It shoots lights out. But that new Bushy predator will be in my safe soon. The 24 inch barrel on the varmiter is a little long. The 20 inch barrel on the predator would be perfect with the 1:8 twist. Give the predator some serious thought.

What about the RRA varmint rig you can get it 16, 18, 20, 24 inch barrel length. would 16 and 18 ich barrels be to small they are 1 in 8 twist.

RJH,

Dtech custom upper fluted 20" SUM bbl., RRA National Match lower. After barrel break-in, got a little over a 1/4" group with Black Hills blue box 52gr MHP moly. Without the scope, I've got about $1000 in the rifle.
