Suggestion on a short range thermal or NV scope

I am looking for a short compact thermal or NV scope to put on my 22 long rifle for shooting 10-75 yards. Any suggestions?.

I think the key factor is what do you intend to shoot with it and what environment are you in? Digital night vision is very effective at those yardages unless you're IR will spook what you're shooting at or unless there's foliage or corn stalks that will blind you from the IR wash.

Along with what Varminter is asking, budget would be the other question. Digital night vision starts around $400 and thermal scopes start around $2,000.

I think the Hogster R25 would be a good bet for the use you described.

I have put a Pulsar thermal Apex XQ38 on a Ruger 10/22 and had a barrel of fun at the chicken coop, as well as raccoon control.

I intend to use the device mainly for controlling raccoons,I typically shoot Eley subsonics on a suppressed 22 $2500 is not out of my budget. Thanks

The Hogster R25 is going to be hard to beat. When not using it on the weapon, you can use the Quick Detach and scan with it for lots of other uses.

Nothing beats thermal for finding animals and in my opinion, there is no better value in the thermal market, than the Hogsters at this time.

Give Tom Austin a call at (909-312-5424 X531) for Predator Master’s best pricing.

I guess it depends how you are locating the coons but given coon shooting might be a little slower pace than coyotes the loss of a bit of fov with the addition mag of the 35 might be better at detecting and iding them off in a tree line or field etc. Not to mention the 35 would probably sell better if you ever decided to upgrade or get completely out of thermal etc.

I really like the Hogster R35. I would like to ask Tom Austin how to buy the Hogster R35 mm. Can you ship it to Italy? Or is it subject to the export ban due to ITAR law?

However, I have asked Bering if they have a Europe-based company that makes/sells Hogsters there? I will let you know what they say

Looking at Night Goggles sales, the Hogster-R 35 is the more popular unit. It is also the unit I hunt with, so there is a lot more video footage available.

The reason I recommend it to most hunters is because as a scope, it will get you an additional 50-100 yards of comfortable shooting range. The reason I suggested the 25 to begin with was the 10-75 yard request for range. The 25 will easily handle this type of range. The 35 is a little overkill and could struggle with a more limited FOV for the real close stuff if that is what it will be mainly used for.

As others have said, the resale may be better on the 35, as we sell more of this model. The chart below compares the two. Besides these differences, the other differences are:

1) The 35 includes a Butler Creek style end cap, the 25 has a hanging end cap.

2) The 35 has a locking mount Bering calls their Tactical QR (Quick Release) mount ($75 added value) while the 25 has their standard QR mount.

The main difference besides price is the native magnification and the Field Of View.

Problem with going with the 25 even though it may really be the best choice for the yardages you mentioned, 3 minutes after using when you're full-blown addicted you'll be setting your sights on something larger than Coons LOL and wanting to shoot farther. Don't ask me how I know.
