If you really want to do something for them, manage the habitat first. Then you can do food plots and feeders.
It doens't matter what kind of protein, feed, or food plots you plant, if you don't have good habitat, you are not going to have much.
As far as summer food plots go, try a mix that has some type of clover (site specific varieties), browntop millet, iron and clay cow peas, buckwheat, milo, sunflower all make nice summer plots. Alyce clover and American joint vetch are also very good if you seed is available, but expensive.
Thats what works here, but NY may have other options like alfalfa and soybean that don't do well this far south.
