suppressed 308 barrel length

Recently had my dealer order a silencer for my blackout and my 308. My 308 is a Remington 700 sps varmint with the 26'' barrel which I think needs to be shorter. Now I know I dont want it all the way down to 16.5" or even 18" but I am really considering 20" or 22". What would ya'll suggest? I plan on deer and pig hunting with it, subsonic and supersonic ammo, and really dont want to take to much velocity away from it but dont want to add another 9 inches to a 26" barrel.
Suggestions?

This is my 300WM. It is at 26" plus the GemTech makes it about 35". I'm ok with the length because I don't hunt with it. Just bang steal at 1000 meters. It weighs in at just under 17 pounds. Wouldn't want to carry around in the woods!

Gonna be tough getting' that out the driver side window....

18" is quite a bit shorter than I would like. I would still be shooting supers out of it and to be honest the noise level is one reason I don't shoot my 16 inch 223 very much. I think I remember that the 700 sps tactical is 20", and I think that will be as short as Id want to go.

A 9" suppressor is going to be a pain in the azz regardless.

I think a 20" tube is a pretty fair compromise. And I agree, a short tubed rifle is helll on the ears.

Yes, the length may turn into something of an issue, I hope not given the cost and time involved in getting the can. To tell the truth, once I saw "300 RUM rated" my mind was made up as that was sort of a wish I had. But that thing will not go hunting with the can. Im pretty sure Id need an adapter to screw the can on and that rifle already weighs a ton due to the sendero style stock and slightly larger than sendero barrel finished at 30"! Maybe if I can find a bean field where I can drive by the stand and set the rifle out and walk back to it!

I started with a SPS tactical 308 with a 20" barrel, was a bit long with suppressor attached. Chopped off 2" and still was just a tad long for what I wanted. I settled on 16.25" and am very happy. It is much easier to handle with the suppressor on and I've not seen any critter that has been shot with it wish they had been hit with more FPS. I did add a noveske flamming pig to it when I shoot it without a suppressor (very rarely, and very ugly), still loud, but better than most other flash suppressors in terms of noise reduction.
