suppressors

Been thinking bout suppressing my ar and was wondering if any of yall could throw some suggestions out there on a certain type or favorite brand

If your on a budget YHM is great quality can for the money the gemtech trek is another great buy. Titanium is the way to go unless your doing lots of shooting at a time and mag dumps. I went with a Surefire myself, but still waiting for the approval.

I agree with the gemtech. Never heard a bad thing about them. Titanium is essential for hunting. Every ounce you hang on the end of that barrel is magnified many times. There are cans that claim to be "quietest on the market" but you pay for that in weight. My brother's can weighs almost 7 more ounces than mine with no discernible difference in suppression. Another thought...a 30 caliber can suppresses a 223 just as we'll as a 22 caliber can and you can put it on many more guns. 30 caliber gemtech weighs 3 more ounces than 22 caliber can.

+1 on that, have one, the 30P-1, and ordering my next Thunderbeast for my .223 Ar-15. Simply the best.

If your in Florida I dont believe you can hunt with suppressors. You want it for an AR so I'm guessing you're going to use it for playing at the range.

My advice is get one that is rated for full auto fire that will stand up to lots of shooting at a range session. Thunderbeast are great precision cans but not rated for high volume shooting with a semi-auto unless you get the 223A which is full auto rated. Weight shouldnt be a big concern for target shooting.

It really doesn't matter which major brand you get. They are all good products..
If you get one make sure to get a Trust, and have it put in the trust.
I would also suggest the quick disconnect for most surface area for mounting. The threaded version takes some alignment, or at least more so than the quick connect.

I would also echo the other opinion of the 30cal version.. I have fired the 30 and 223 on a 223 AR and there is no sound difference and you are looking at something that you are going to have for a very long time and is a pain to sell. So you might as well get one that will work on any gun you buy now or in the future.

Gonna hijack this thread. Just interested in obtaining a suppresor under a Trust. What are the advantages? How did you set it up? For all us out here without a lawyer as a friend or in the family.

There is a attorney in Texas that sets up trusts. He advertises on a local website. Charges $250. Says no law enforcement signatures required. 5 or 6 people can split the trust cost, split cost of suppressor and all can then use the suppressor legally. If u die without a trust the can has to go back to Feds. If in a trust it can be willed to whoever you like. That what I remember. I can find his advertisement later tonight if I like

The Trust offers the ability for others to use the products without you being present, you can also skip the LEO signoff. I have my stuff in my name but it is unlikely that my kids will get the urge to use them. It costs a little, but worth it if your local LEO will not sign off or you have a group of family and friends that want to possess the stuff.

You are wrong...

You are able to will your NFA items that are not on a trust 1 time tax free on a form 5 upon death.

Draw back of a trust is your dumb [beeep] (trust partner) decides to do something dumb with a NFA item and gets caught he puts your whole trust in jepordy. Not cool. Not a risk I want with items I spent MY money on. If my Friends want NFA items they can buy their own.

Answer to OP is..... My Favorite precision can is a Thunderbeast 30p-1, its the one that I run on all my Yote killing bolt guns.

If anyone is interested I found this guys info. Here it is.

"Guys,

I am an attorney that can put together the NFA Trust that would give you the opprotunity to order a suppressor. Please feel free to call my office at 210-340-1818 or email me at pgarcia@pgtxlaw.com. I will try to answer any questions you have."

Not an atty so I may be missing the facts but, if you are the primary trust dude, and you die, I think you can transfer the trust to another primary dude (as it was not expected). That would be the whole idea of a trust.

Googled "Revokable Living Trust" and this was the first listing...

A revocable living trusts is a popular estate planning tool that you can use to determine who will get your property when you die. Most living trusts are “revocable” because you can change them as your circumstances or wishes change. Revocable living trusts are “living” because you make them during your lifetime.

If you own NFA items (individually owned, not a trust) and you die, your heir, or whoever you leave your NFA items to, can transfer ownership to themselves via the Form 5, tax free.

Didn't mean to hurt your feelings.

OP - I like my SRT Hurricane Ti.............a lot!

There is a lot of good information in this thread, and I think we ended up on the correct view of what happens at death. The main benefits of a trust are skipping the CLEO step and being able to have multiple users (could be your kids). You can amend your trust pretty easily if needed to add/delete people as needed. I completely agree with the statement above regarding being careful about who you let on there.

And of course I'm not a lawyer in your state or any other.

Finally, it is a big purchase that will be with you for a long time as stated. Take some time and talk to as many people as you can. The best thing to do is try one out (or listen to them being used). Whatever brand you choose don't look back. Anything you pick from the top manufacturers will be WAY better than shooting unsuppressed.

Once you shoot suppressed you will never go back!
