SureFire X300

Im looking to pick up a X300 gun light for some night hunting. I was just wondering if anyone has some experience with them, I would like to know how far the soposed 170 lumens actually reach. I have a cabelas 80 lumen light that impreses the [beeep] out of me I was just wondering if one of these could actually be twice as good.

My other option is one of them scope mounted big guys, I was looking at the Primos light that reaches 350 yards. How could these compare? I like the idea of being able to use the surefire on a handgun if I ever needed also.

It looks like it has a small head diameter like a lot of surefire handheld lights. I have a couple of really bright Surefire lights, but they have the small heads also.

Head diameter sort of dictates how far a light will "throw." Some of the smaller jobs are intensely bright, but don't send the light out very far at all. Their strong suit is indoors, in a tactical-type scenario; one where you want the light to spill to the sides and make it easier to see all around a given area at once.

Surefire used to make a"turbo head" conversion for some of their lights that kept the same lumen output, but greatly increased their throw. I just checked their site and it looks like they don't make any of that stuff anymore.
They do still make the M3 Combatlight that should fit into a 1" scope ring. It should prove to be insanely bright and have awesome throw.

Don't get me wrong, Surefire is top of the line when it comes to professional flashlights. Some of them are so bright, it doesn't matter how well they throw; there's just so much light output, they work.

Reading through the Night Hunting board I think I found more of what Im looking for in the Olight M3X Triton. Its larger and much brighter, unusable on a hand gun but can still be mounted comparable to the surefire. Im hunting coyotes and not doing any sort of tactical karate choping so this may be great for what I need.
