Surgeon 1086 = Rem 700 LA inlet?

Here's from a website that sells them:

"The 591s are Remington foot print but with a straight (not swept back) handle, and stocks will require a cutout for the side bolt release. The 1086s are the same but in long action. "

You're welcome!
I can't speak for the LA personally, but the SA is a dang tank!

I'm on the fence right now, I have blue printed 700's and have had a pair of Stiller Predators, just thinking about trying a different 700 clone custom for a new long range hunting rifle.

Thinking about a pretty standard long range hunting rig: straight 284win or 284 Shehane, repeater, Mac A5, Nightforce NXS 5-22x56 (maybe go cheap on an SHV), Seekin's 20MOA or Talley's, Jewell, PTG or Wyatt's bottom metal for DBM (might just go BDL), Shilen 28"-30" 9twist... Just not sure if I want to have it built or try building it myself (probably), and not sure if I want to start with a stock 700 or with a custom 700 clone. Always wanted to try a Surgeon, maybe I'll bit the bullet this time and go for it. I'm used to hauling Ruger's around, so I'm sure I won't even notice the extra heft of the Surgeons with their bedding foreskin...

The Stiller "Tac" actions are good too if you aren't going to be top loading into a BDL magazine, and the Bighorn actions are very nice in both the Sporter and Tactical versions.

Not sure, I've never had a predator. I think Brad might have one.

Tim,
I think the main difference is just the size of the port.
The Predator is more open so you can load a BDL magazine from the top like a 700,
and the Tac action has a smaller port to supposedly make a stiffer action.
You have to use a detachable mag on the Tac.

Good info there on the Pred vs. Tac - I wasn't sure of the difference either! Just to look at them, and their prices, I wasn't sure there was any difference besides the finish.

What money? Haha! This year I finished a custom 357/44 B&D Mag Redhawk, 3 AR's with 5 uppers, 4 custom single action revolvers, did a rebuild on a rem 700 SBR, gave into temptation on a 416 Rigby CZ action, and started 3 custom bolt action Ruger M77 hunting rifles. I have 2 Rem actions on the shelf, might sell those off to kick off this project, but I'm not decided yet.
