Part of the excitement of the hunt, is putting in the time to scout and find new spots. I'll be moving up to SW Idaho soon, and have already mapped out areas I will be scouting after I arrive. I don't expect there to be any chucks out when I get there, but I know what sign to look for that tells me there is a decent population. I'll be ready for next spring.
Learn their habitat, then jump on Google Earth and make a list of areas for you to physically check. Next, hop in your vehicle and head to those areas to scout. Speak to landowners, farmers, folks at the local feed stores in the area. All of this will help, but putting miles on your vehicle will be the best way to find some decent spots, and it will be so much more rewarding!
Good luck!
