Hello swamp grass gunners, yesterday had a light snow. went checking for coyote and wolf tracks. yeh they are in the same areas.
went in sum of my swamps, i have lots of different swamps out here thats what makes this fun. i couldn't hunt all my swamps in a 60 mile circle if i had too.

i notice tracks at the parimeter outlines, tracks at the tree lines around, and of course tracks in the swamp grass, but, tracks in the swamp grass were on the deer trails. and 4x4 small trails only. boy are thes dogs lazy. then it hit me. since they like to walk the deer trails in the swamp grass. get a 4x4 and make my own trails, but make the trails in the swamp grass so i have a easy ambush on them. should work just fine. boy these dogs are lazy, they like the easy walking. they like the rabbits there, they hang around those areas. they been chasing everything there, squrills, mice, etc.

1) So my questions are, for all of you swamp grass hunters, do you have any more ideas of hunting coyotes in the swamp grass?
Like i did, make your own trails.

Making trails with 4-wheelers works good in cattail slews too, esp for deer, might be against state laws though, so watch yer back.

We dont have swamp grass, but we do run cattle in the river bottoms covered in berry vines. And ive noticed over the years if you ride through the thickets on horseback looking for cows the game in that area continue to use those trails and they rarely ever grow back over.
I dont see why a fourwheeler wouldnt work if its leagle.

Just a thought, I know they do travel via ready made trails but if coming into a call, they make take a different path to use the tall grass as cover or try and wind the distress call.....it always seems that if there is one bush or tree or whatever, they will put it between the call and themselves. I have watched trails before and it seems to be more of an ambush situation rather than a sure fire trail leading them to a easy meal.....Im not saying that it wont work, just may not be as easy as "build it and they will come" type of situation.....JMO.

I think animals have a tendency to take the path of least resistance, as long as they still feel safe. So why walk through the grass when there is a trail cut for you, as long as it feels safe to walk on.

I'd go through and maybe cut a few trails through them myself and see how that works out.
