Swarovski 8x30 WB SLC ??

Are these a good choice for a first "quality" binocular purchase?
Is the 30mm objective still bright early and late? I know the 3.8 exit pupil isn't ideal, but doesn't the glass and coatings help make up for that?

Any other pros and cons?

Thanks!!

Absolutely---love mine!! I see that CameraLand NY has them on sale too.

Did you se the 8x43 Zen Ray demos on this Site's classified? I hear good things about them, and the price is certainly right!

Any of the top 3 bino markers are going to be very good.

I have Leica ultravids 8*32's and they're excellent since they're small and fairly compact. Glass is very good, but doesn't hang with my 42's.

My Swarovski EL's are just simply amazing. The image factor is just "WoW" when you look through them. Also, the feild of view seems to be a lot bigger then my Leica UV's. My Swaro has better glass and much brighter, ESP in low light.

Depends on what you're planning on doing with your Bino's.

For me, my Leica UVs are the perfect bow hunting glass. Small, compact and good glass for what I need.

My Swarovski ELs 10*42's are dang nice for longer distances. If I was planning on doing some hunting out West, I think these ELs would be perfect for that.

If you're not in a hurry to buy glass, I'd personally try to find a 8*42's or 10*42's from Swarovski, Zeiss, or Leica. I think you'll be happy with a full size bino as some people have a problem with the smaller 8*30's fitting their faces.

I hear that a lot with the Leica 8*32 UVs.

I've seen used sets of 8*42 ultravids for $1100-$1400. With the new HD glass that veryone is coming out with, a lot of good deals pop up.

I wouldn't be afraid of buying used, if they're of course in excellent, like new condition.

Thanks everybody!
I've been looking at a lot of the better quality binos for a while, and I think these are what I've been looking for.
Doug's sale price is about the top end of my bino budget.
I ordered them a few minutes ago.

I better get some of the Cameraland "free stuff" this time or I'm gonna raise more Heck than a jacka$$ in a tin barn!!

No doubt the 8X30's are great glass. But I like to use mine alot in low light conditions. And I am not real concerned about the carry weight. So there is no way I would trade my SLC 8X56's for them. But if you want something lighter and not real concerned about lower light conditions then go for it. But they will not compete with my 8X56's when light is stingy. Just my opinion. And I have a set of 8X30(great for bow hunting when weight is an issue) Zeiss that I really like. But only for certain situations.

However I wil admit I have been doing a little investigating to the 8X30's that Doug has on sale. I have considered replacing my 8X30 Zeiss with those on sale Swaro's. Tom.

Thanks again guys.
I hope they are what I expect. Problem is I don't have a dealer anywhere close by to look at and compare quality optics. I've looked through 1 Swaro bino in my lifetime. I guess I'll own the second!

Tom, I have a set of those on the way from Cameralland. I'm hoping they'll be here tomorrow.
