With the economy in southwestern Idaho taking a dive, I decided to work in the oilfield out of Rock Springs.
I know that oilfield workers and out of state hunters can cause some heated discussions, but I'm putting myself at the mercy of the forum on asking for some pointers in this area. I work all around and see a lot of great country. I have been out a few times but not much action. I'm worried I'm trying places that are called pretty heavily. I've been down around the gorge quite a bit and that's all I have had time for. I can only get out on the off chance that I get off work early. Anyway, any tips or pointers however vague they may be would be appreciated. Thanks!
 
spent a couple days out there last week, slow calling, I think there has definitely been a ton of pressure out there. I could see quite a few spots where trucks had pulled off, looking as if they where calling it.
 
i lived there for nearly 22 years, the best advice i can tell you is....if you are anywhere that is easy to get to than the coyotes are educated by poorly skilled callers. everyone who gets a call for xmas runs 10 min out side rs to white mountain or little mountain and calls.... you have to get out there far enough that its not really convenient and make a day out of it....

owyhee, HIKE 10 minutes from the nearest road and you'll probably have 1,000's of acres of unspoiled land to hunt. Most of the weekend warriors don't get much more then 200 yards off the right of way
 
Ya what they said.

Remember how popular the gorge is for fishermen and most of em have a rifle in their truck.

The only ones I have called in near the gorge we used snow shoes to get off the beaten path, but even then they are pretty leary.
 
Thanks guys, I was thinking that the gorge area was heavily called.
When I get some more time I'm going to try the areas around hwy 430 down towards irish canyon.

earlier in the year I was working in the Jonah field and was having really good luck calling the sagebrush between rocksprings and pinedale. They didnt seem to shy to me and most of them I called are uneducated. Now they are just plain dead.

seems like everbody and thier dog that has come to western wyo for the big gas patch bucks has become a so called coyote caller or a poacher.PM me owyhee I.m north of you.....
 
Yeah, way to give away my secret spot. It's only 102 miles from Rock Springs to Pinedale. I used to call that area for about 10 miles on each side of the road. That's only 2000 square miles and now you went and ruined it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif
