and will be running a suppressor. What barrel length would you guys run. Weight isn't a concern for me, I just want to get as much performance out of the cartridge as possible.
I have a 20 Swift with a 27 inch barrel, there is plenty of powder capacity in the case, so I doubt you will get maximum performance until you get up over 28 inches or so. Larry
With a Suppressor a 20-24" would handle best for a carry/hunting Rifle.
If I were going to shoot from a bench only I would go 26-28 to get ALL that Horsepower that the Swift delivers.
You going to like the Swift...It's a zinger !!!

I don't think you'll gain more than 100-120 fps between 22 and 28 but I'm answering the question that was asked.
My Krieger barreled Swift has a 28" barrel as well as a 6" HTG suppressor on it. Let me tell you- that is a long piece of pipe! But all that I ever shoot off of is a bench so it is performance first and portability second. As long as I can get it in a hard shell gun case then the barrel is not too long!

I like the way you think. Soooo, if you really want to get the most from this cartridge, you'll add a couple letters to the end of its name and make it a 220 Swift AI (Ackley Improved)
The 220 Swift is one of those cases that is just begging to be Ackley Improved and has a pretty significant increase in case capacity when you do. Everything gets better when you AI them.
Also, I'd go with a decent sized barrel contour as well. Especially, considering you'll be hanging a can off the end of it. I'd use something like a Sendero taper if it were me.
And FWIW, anyone looking for Winchester 220 Swift brass I saw quite a bit of it last Saturday at a store I was at $54 per 100.
