Swift, cheetah, or 22-243

As I am sure that you are aware, only the Swift is a factory round, but the other two are fairly easy to make from .243 Winchester or full length BR brass if you want to use a small primer pocket.

And as much a hotrod as the .220 Swift is both the 22/243 amd the Cheetah are faster yet, but at quite the expense of barrel life. The Swift is overbore as it is and coming up with something else that burns another 20% more powder for a 5% speed gain is rather whoopdedo to me.

I think that is one reason the .223 Win short mag fell on its face was that it was a lot of boom and expense for not much gain. Unless you are counting how fast it can toast a barrel that is.

If I had a lot of money (I don't) and the desire (I don't) I might want a real screamer like the Cheeta but since 90% of the time I don't even shoot my own .220 Swift full throttle anymore, I have to wonder why anyone would want to go to the bother? And any furry animal that you shoot with one of the three certainly is not going to tell what you killed him with.

Me, personally, I would lean towards the swift. It's a commercial round, so their is plenty of components and data available. Plus, for me, it's quite fast enough. Just my

wow. not much for productive responses on this question.

are you wanting to throw some light bullets out at extreme velocity or are you looking to shoot the high BC .22 cal bullets?

i've wanted to go with the 22-243 for quite some time but haven't wanted to rebarrel anything i currently have and can't quite justify a new build. i'm actually planning an AR10 type build and not you've got me thinking! i was planning a .243 or .260 but maybe i need to look at a couple of other calibers!

what barrel length are you looking at?

If you narrow it down to the swift before you commit just think about a 22-250 AI it will shoot as fast if not faster than the swift plus you don't have to do near the trimming you will with the swift. They can and usually do really stretch necks, and you can shoot lapua brass with the 250.

already have a 243, looking at slingin some high velocity rounds, being im in a speed freak mood right now. Not sure on barrel length, but thought about building it on a stevens 200 action. Any opinions on building it on that action would be great too.

I only mentioned the 250 AI as I have a custom build in the works it originaly was going to be a swift, but I changed it mostly for the above reasons. I have build off of a Stevens action before. I won't again, but it works.

Only that it is a savage, I am just not a fan of the looks of savage actions. The one thing savage actions have going for them is the floating bolt head, maybe that's why they are so accurate. Which is why I went with a bighorn custom action they also have a floating bolt head.

If I wasn't going custom it would be a REM 700 action.

Have both of them. Cheetah on a 700 re. It really is a fine shooting rifle but as said above load down a little to help b/life.. mine has over a thousand through it and shoots as good as new.

I have both of these. Both are great shooters but the cheeteh ia a little better. Its on a 700 action with over 1000 through it but... as said above load down you wont notice the difference..
