I posted this over at Accuratereloading.com but haven't got a reply yet. Thought I'd try here for some opinions.

Swift Premier Rifle Scope 6-24x 50mm Adjustable Objective Quadraplex Reticle Matte http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=778604

Leapers Accu Shot 30mm SWAT 4-16X56 http://www.opticsplanet.net/leapers-accu-shot-30mm-swat...-dot-illuminate.html

I have the Leapers on a Savage .17HMR, but the big objective looks goofy on the little .17HMR. The Leapers has locking knobs on the turrets, so I'm thinking it may hold zero better than the Swift. I think the Swift would look better on the .17HMR also. Or would the Swift hold up better to .308 Win recoil? I had an older Swift 6-18x50 mounted on my .270 that worked fine for years, until I dropped it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif I know neither of these are great scopes. Its what I have to work with. I will be building a heavy barrel .308 Win from a 98 Mauser action. Total cost of rifle, minus scope, will be $300-$350. I wont put a scope on that's worth more than the rifle. I doubt the rifle will get much use. I have had fun lately building hunting rifles from 98 Mauser actions I've gotten. I don't expect sub MOA, just a hunting rifle/something to play with from time to time. After I work up the handloads, I doubt it will get more than a couple boxes of ammo put through it per year. I thank you in advance for your constructive comments. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I also have a Leapers with locking turrets on a 17 HMR and love it. Mine is 3-9x50 though. I just put another Leapers, that was on my wife's 17, on my 25-06 CDL. My toy fund can't afford better glass right now. I have every confidence that it is going to help me fill my antelope come Oct.

I have no experience with Swift products but I have heard reports that they are a decent bang for the buck.

My dad has a Leapers on a .303 British, and it works just fine. Holds zero well. Leapers brand is a pretty good brand for the money, and one gunsmith told me a couple of years ago that their warranty is iron clad - long story about a guy who turned a four wheeler over on his, 12 bucks, new scope.

i have a leapers mildot 3-9x40 on my 7mm-08 remmy and it holds up just fine, 308 would be a small step up in recoil but i think it would still be fine.

if that was a packing gun i would steer you to the swift, i have both scopes you are talking about. the leapers is about twice the weight of the swift. i think the swift may have slightly better glass, but both are good for money.
my swift was on a duce and the leapers was on a 22-250, so not much of a recoil test, but i doubt you will ever have to worry about the effects of recoil on your 308 any way. lee

Don't short youself on the 98's. Some mighty fine rifles are still being built on the 98 action.Go to mauser central if you already havn't. They take their Mauser's real serious there. I have a vz-24 in 257 Robt. that has an Adams and Bennet barrel that shoots little bug holes as long as I shoot light bullets(75 gr. v-max). Anyway, I would try the Swift only cause its a bit smaller. Didn't mean to wander off the subject, just like the mauser customs, their kinda cool.
