As to sending a scope back; well, I once had to send a brand new Leupold back. It was fixed in short order as you would imagine from Leupold. But, I guess it just goes to show that they all may have to go back at one time or another. But, Leupolds are not prone to that. I own several and that is the first I've ever had to send back.
I have but one Mueller - a 3x10x44, illuminated dot on my AR. For a calling scope, I love it. I've had no problems to date and have had it about two years. It holds zero and I've not had to tinker with readjusting. Once set, it stays there.
The only thing that I noticed was that the point of aim shifts slightly from low to high power, but I think a lot of scopes will do that.
The reticle on the Mueller has me more excited than the scope itself. The German 4 with an illuminated dot reticle, in my judgement, is one heck of a nice predator reticle. When I do illuminate it, which is not often, the dot is all that turns red. I like that. I don't like the whole crosshair glaring red. I just wish that more scope manufacturers would jump on the bandwagon and begin producing scopes with that type of reticle.
For the price I paid for my Mueller ($159), it's one heck of a nice scope, and has helped me collect two coyotes and four bobcats in the short time I have had it.
Good luck with your decision.
