I would not recommend a Taurus, especially for a carry gun that you may have to depend on in a life or death situation. Taurus has very so-so quality control and their repair department and customer service is not very good. I would strongly advise you to take the time to research Taurus. You could start right here in this forum, I have a thread about my most recent experience with them. Take a look at S&W or Ruger, they are well worth the extra money. You have been warned.

i just got one for my wife to shoot. ive had no problem with it at all. i think its like everymaker out there that has a bad run...hows them remingtons safeties? ive never had an issue with the safety on my 700.

I have one that I have packed for several years, and as for as I know, there is nothing wrong with it. Taurus has a pretty good reputation, as far as I'm concerned. Of course, a S&W would be just as good a choice.

I carried one for years, both IWB and in an ankle rig. I never had a failure with it even with qualifying and practicing regularly. That said, it was noticably "rougher" and just not as nice as a S&W or Ruger. I always planned to upgrade, just never did before I switched agencies. My new one doesn't allow backup guns at all, so I sold the revolver. If I ever bought a new one, it wouldn't be a Taurus.
One real issue I had with it, though was electrolysis. The frame was aluminum and the crane was steel. Carrying IWB would sometimes allow enough sweat in there to actually "stick" the two parts together. A dab of teflon grease between the two solved the problem, but I never heard of the issue before or since.

Can anyone name a police department or law enforcement agency that relies on Taurus? Is there a military in the world that uses Taurus?

I have 4 Taurus firearms. Only 1 has been a problem, but it's been a big problem. Brand new gun that doesn't work, had to pay shipping to return it, got it back with the same problem, had to return it again, got it back worse than ever, had to return it again. So a brand new gun that doesn't shoot, been sent back twice for repair, and is currently back for the 3rd time. The Taurus " Lifetime Warranty" does not cover shipping, and shipping guns to them for repair is expensive.

I own 31 firearms currently. The only one that has ever been a problem is this Taurus revolver I'm referring to. Prior to this experience, I owned Taurus's without a problem and could have very easily been saying the same things as others who say they've never had a problem with them. If you ever do have an issue, there is a decent chance you may go through " Taurus H*ll" . Please take the time to research Taurus before making the final decision. Clink on the link in my sig and there is a starting point if you are so inclined.

While I too have had many Taurus pistols without problem, Smith makes the 642 which is their low end pistol which should work as well, you should be able to get one for less than $400.

This is a great idea. For that price, there is really no reason to get the Taurus. You could get an American made gun which is far superior to a Taurus, and which has a lifetime warranty that the manufacturer will pay the shipping on for about the same price. A capital idea dogtired !!

I've been seeing the new Ruger LCR's and the new S & W equivalent in the $350 to $400 range new price w/ great reputations and CS. Taurus seems to be an innovative co. , not afraid to try things new, and produces lower priced arms than the competition, of debatable quality difference, but it does seem that their CS is in need of an overhaul.

That's great news on those prices. I've owned a Ruger SP101 for over 20 years and used it hard without a problem. When my father passed away my mother asked to have a gun for her to use and I ended up training her with it and it sort of has become hers now. I purchased a S&W 640 to replace it and that has been a terrific gun also. This Taurus 650 CIA was a present for my girlfriend and has been a nightmare. It will be replaced with a S&W. It's great to see the American manufacturers price points becoming so competitive with Taurus. IMO there is a big difference between a Ruger or S&W vs. the Taurus. With the prices narrowing like this, I think many people will choose the better manufacturers and buy American.

Its true that a decade ago taurus was a low quality gun.. but that is no longer the case. Taurus has stepped up there game so much in the last several years that i recently choose a taurus oss over a springfield xd and im not a bit ashamed to say its one of the most accurate pistols i have. if im being honest the only pistol i have that shoots better is my kimber or my ruger black hawk.. and for less then half the price if either of them its a no brainer.. They are turning out some very high quality stuff i would not let an OLD reputation hold you back!..

[beeep] remember when you could get a para ordanence 1911 for 300 dollors..now there over a thousand. most of these companys realized that it dosent cost less to machine to better tolorances and make better stuff.
my thoughts ..dont waist you money buying a namebrand like a xd just because its the new glock!

more to the subject though.. i spent 600 dollors on a S&W airweight and it dosent shoot any better than the copy made by cobra arms.. and the cobra cost much less.

I have a BRAND NEW Taurus that is absolute junk. It's been back for repairs twice and they made it WORSE. The Taurus guns I own from the early 90's I've never had a problem with. You can believe what you want.
