Does anyone have any experience with the Taurus revolvers in 17HMR? I am interested in accuracy and if a scope can be mounted to them. Thanks.

I mounted a red dot on mine and it was a very accurate pistol. I found the 17HMR to be lacking in a revolver round. Although I prefer it over 22 mag in a rifle from a short barrel I found that the 22 mag performed better for me.

I had one and I wish I never traded it. It was an 8" blued Tracker and it shot great. Yes you can mount a scope you just buy the base that mounts on the rib like the big revolvers.

i have one and i have shot mabye 50 rds through it ... and it lodged a slug in the barrell ... i punched the slug out and 5 rds later it did it again.. i am gonna send it back to taurus and see what the verdict is.. btw the scope mount for the tracker i think is 49 dollars..

I'd think if your sticking bullets hotdog it's a cartridge problem not a gun problem. I don't have a 17, but I've had several 22's brought into the shop when I was working and it was always a bad cartridge instead of the gun when a bullet got stuck in the barrel.

I've got three Taurus products, a 41 mag Tracker, a 38 special Ultra-light snubby and a Rossi (which is a Taurus company) Stainless 22 lr. revolver and all of them work well. There supposed to have a great lifetime warrentee, but I've never had to use it except to have a firing pin replaced in the Rossi and they did that free.

I have a Taurus 17HMR with a 2x Nikon attached. It will do minute of coke at 50 yds all day. Never had a problem with the gun, just a couple of misfires with the ammo. Mine really likes the 17gr ammo.

Check out CDNN, they often have the 17HMR taurus in stock and on sale.

I did have a tracker at one time, really liked the gun and it was very accurate, I did have it scoped with a 2-6 power and it really was fun to shoot. I basically got rid of it because the 17 just blew everything apart, not good if you want to eat what you shoot and great if you are just shooting varmints.

the mount is spendy but its a pretty good mount overall.
I have to say that I do miss that sucker.

As far as the taurus guns go, its like everything else you get some good ones, you get some great ones, its just that everyone that gets a poor one tends to be more vocal about it.

good luck

Dave

I got one and added an aimpoint and hogue grip and love it. Very good accuracy.

i was going to look at the same model in 22 mag. which round would be better for varmits and predators 22 mag or 17 hmr?
i read an article that stated the more knock down of 22 mag would be better, but i would think accuracy in 17 hmr to be better at 30 yrd and under.

would anyone that owns the gun shoot a coyote with the 17 hmr? what would be the longest shot you would take?

I was also hoping to find one of these revolvers in 22 mag, but I don't think they're offered, unless the company just started to produce them.
I believe it would be a good seller.

taurus web site says it can be bought in a model 941 4" or 5". model 971 6" that is the one looks just like one pictured above in 22 mag. if dealer price is right i am ordering mine tomorrow. probally will put red dot on it.

I've got a S&W M647 with a Nikon 2.5-8. Amazingly accurate.

i am also looking at getting a taurus but i am deciding between the raging bee and raging hornet due to the range and knockdown power for yotes i think the 22 hornet or 218 Bee would be a better choice for me
