tc100c2 850nm ir flashlight

Does one think a shroud around the end of the IR would work with this unit to condense the beam and prevent some of the "Splash Back"?

Kinda like a spotlight that spreads??

I have not tried it but you probably could put a 3" or 4" scope extension tube or piece of PVC pipe around the head to try to keep the spill from hitting the ground in front of you.

When I use mine, I generally try to keep the long throw part of the beam somewhat elevated off the ground to alleviate the problem.

don't forget that this light has a high and a low setting. I leave mine on low, but can easily switch to high power if needed.

I also use mine helmet mounted mostly and I just ordered another one to mount on my electric cart to use as an IR headlight.

I made a shroud for mine from a PVC conduit coupling. (Grey....not white schedule 40) Not sure how effective it is but it makes me more comfortable with it shrouded up close to my face mounted on the helmet.

Nice!!!

Do you find that the Shroud pinpoints the beam more or are you still seeing Splash Back?

I am thinking of buying one and mounting it near the end of my barrel as a back up to my Night Optics IRK2.

Thanks!

DDW...

I did not do any comparison testing. I think you will get IR feedback from any emitter that does not actually focus the beam itself. There are some situations this works for me gun mounted but it has to be clear of vegetation in close to avoid the feedback issue. The PVC does nothing in the way of focusing or pinpointing the beam.

I just like it shrouded close to my face and I thought it might help a little with off axis source detection. (red glow)

It's not a big risk to try at $65.

Thanks guys!!

One of these days i will need to purchase a NV Monocular along with a helmet blah blah blah!!

Most of the time walking into a stand it is a crap shoot!!

Thermal does not pick up the slight rolly hills that the coyotes like to sneak in behind!

80% of the time after calling we are finding that we are sitting in a bowl trying see and i feel that 1/2 of the critters we never see!!

Gman,

I want to eventually buy a helmet set up similar to yours.

I think i am really missing out on seeing exactly where to set up making it more advantageous for me versus the coyote!!

I tried mounting both the Torch Pro and the LDI SPIR on my helmet in the same place where the EagleTac IR is, even with the focusable bearm they are too much for the PVS-14 and I get autogain shutoff and chickwire pattern in the lens. They are way too much and too close to the PVS-14 to use without damaging the imager tube.

When helmet mounted, only use the EagleTac on low as high is just too much.

Weapon mounted out in front on the rail is not a problem like it is on the helmet though....

I just ordered two of the Eagle Tac IR's

Not bad, $200.00 for (2) IR's, (2) 1" Inch mounts and (2) pressure pad switches and USPS priority shipping!

I think i will take one to the hardware store on Friday to make sure i have a way of measuring whatever it is i am going to make a shroud with, whether it be PVC or something else.

I would like to match it up against my Night Optic's IRK2 ELR when it has a shroud to see if i can pinpoint the beam somewhat and if it is brighter.

According to the guy where i purchased it from he said it is the brightest IR available, don't all companies claim they have the brightest/best IR on the market??

Thanks for all the helps guys and i will report back on my findings between the Eagle Tac and the Night Optics.

It has the Phillips OSRAM IR LED in it, that is the MOST Powerful IR LED I have ever seen @ 3,400mW of IR. Nothing comes close to that I am aware of.

I have numerous Phillips OSRAM UV bulbs for Leitz and Zeiss fluorescent microscopes at work, these are all made in the Netherlands at the Phillips LED plant there and are top notch.

You will NOT be disappointed.

thanks for the info on the helmet padding Skypup, I may very well look into that.

I tried using a shroud that I got way back with one of my red kill lights from HTRN but my beam was so far out of alignment that it still washed out everything close, but by moving the rear of the rail down that washout went away totally. now it looks more like just using the PVS on a really bright night. no washout. I would think by angling it up a little like I did should cut down on the red glow also downrange.

just go out at night and point it up a little and you will that washout disappear. remove the rear screw on the rail and slightly loosen the front one. then go out and swivel the rear of the rail down while you are are wearing the helmet and looking through the PVS. if you give that a try, I think you will agree it works out really well.

I think the first batch was 1000 units if I remember reading that correctly. the ones he is selling now is the second batch. I could be wrong on that info so don't take it to the bank. he certainly has a fair price on them especially for how nice they are. you should go look at the nice pics he has on his website.

Another flashlight that everyone in our hunt group carries on a nylon parachute ripcord around there neck out into the woods with them is this Olight unit that runs on one CR123 and has an ultralow "MoonLight" setting as well as some super high power settings.

http://www.batteryjunction.com/olight-s10.html

These simply are the best for getting your gear setup in and around the truck and once you get out to your stand, as well as providing high powered white light whenever you need it. I've got five of these and they are the most helpful of all the lights I've got and I've got allot of lights....

With a neutral density filter made to press on or glued to a flip cap style cover, the brightness of the tc100c2 can be reduced to allow close in or a reduced glow. I am using a daylight filter off some old russian NV day caps. This works great for close in to eliminate any blooming, works to reduce the glow seen by the critters. If I don't want to remove the filter I just turn the head to the turbo setting before shooting incase I need follow up shots at a longer distance I have enough light to see for several hundred yards.
