Ever since aquiring an AR with a Magpul PRS on it, I've been looking for a way to easily attach a sling to it. I flirted with a single point sling and didn't like, so I decided I wanted a standard sling, particularly after using a Quake Claw sling on my recent muzzleloader deer hunt. So, I went asearchin' and found the CTK Precision Magpul PRS Sling Swivel Stud, which looked promising. I ordered one up and recently tackled the installation job. I'm impressed enough with it that I wanted to tell y'all about it.
The installation is fairly straightforward. The included instructions are clear and simply written. Here's where I started.
The first thing you do, obviously, is unload the firearm and get ready. You remove the stock, which is quite simple for the PRS - just loosen a couple Allen head bolts and slide it off. Then pop off the little cover that protects the bottom Picatinny rail.
Next, mark the center of the center block in the Picatinny rail. Yes, there really is an X in that center block.
Then you need to protectively clamp the stock to prevent it from spreading apart when you drill the hole.
Once you're all set up, center punch the hole location, drill a 1/8" pilot hole, and follow that with the full size 1/4" bit.
Then disassemble the stock using an Allen wrench.
Take off the random parts and remove the adjustment wheels to fully disassemble the stock.
I only had a 15/64" bit, so I had to use a round file to finish the halves of the previously drilled holes to the proper size. This allowed me to fit the stud exactly.
When you're sure that the stud fits snugly in each side of the stock and in the stock when clipped back together, start putting the stock back together. Here's my final test fit before reassembly.
Finally, reassemble the stock by attaching the adjustable cheek rest, buffer spring tube cover, and the various bolts and strap holders.
Voila, you now have a fully sling-ready PRS. I understand this little stud will also work nicely to attach a rear stock pod-type rest for bench shooting.
Thanks for letting me spout fellas; I hope at least one of you finds this useful.
