got a trade offer on another website for the fly fishing stuff i have listed here......i dont know a lot about the ARs but i have heard these guns arent the best.....im not having much luck with anything on the fly fishing stuff and i just really need with it.....one guy said these are junk cause they have no forward assist....honestly i dont even know what the forward assist does.....its jsut gonna be a paper punching gun and something for me to learn about the ARs on.....thought maybe i could swap out some parts here and there on it like the upper reciever and out in something like a Daniel Defense with the forward assist and jsut kind of mess around with it some....im still gonna build one but thought this one might be something for me to learn on with changeing parts and so on.....anyone have one of these or seen them or know much about them

the sportical is fine i have one and im shooting quarter size groups at 100 yrds. I havent worked up a load for it just been shooting factory ammo. for the price the rifle is a deal.

In 2 years of shooting ARs,,never touched the forward assist...unless it was well,,just to touch it.

Some will argue(and its been argued alot)that they ease the bolt forward quiety,,and hit the forward assist to make sure the bolt is closed,,,Me i just slap it shut, the way it was designed....................X

I've shot both types in action competitions for five years and like Coyotex, I've never needed the forward assist....

They do come in handy when charging the weapon and you are attempting to be quiet while hunting... but even then, if you charge the weapon at the vehicle and use the safety, it's not needed..

Over the years, I've has several ARs of various brands and the DPMS that I've had for about the last ten is not only my favorite, but has proven to be the most accurate and dependable of the factory offerings I've used... I currently have four and it will be the last on to leave my 'stable'..It's a "slick side" as well as a custom .204 that I have..

As with any production AR,,,the stock trigger usually needs to be upgraded, but you will find that to be true with any of the others..

Well that makes me feel a lot better i havent had a lot of interest in this fishing stuff as to sellin it so im hopeing i can get this guy to trade me and ill be good to go.

now on these guns can parts on them be swapped out just like any other AR? or does the no forward assist make any diffrence on that at all?

Shouldn't make a bit of difference... The only missing from any standard AR is the forward assist plunger..It uses the same bolt carrier group, etc..

I'm thinking the dust cover is also missing on a slickside.

But the dust cover on an AR is something else that I would not miss if'n it was missing.

I have had really good luck with DPMS rifles. I have a lo pro classic that is the same rifle as the sportical, but with a heavy barrel. Great shooter, as are all of the other 5 or 6 DPMS rifles that I have personally shot. I wouldn't worry about a forward assist, or dust cover unless you plan on using the rifle for combat. Keep it clean like you would any other hunting rifle and you will have no worries. Also, I found on my lo pro that if I am in a position that I want to ease the bolt forward, all I have to do is push forward on the side of the bolt carrier and it locks right up fine.

I have the lo pro also just as steve described, been great so far and I like the looks of not having the forward assis or dust cover it make for a cleaner looking rifle IMO.

I have a couple DPMS rifles and have never had a issue with them..I also have a DPMS heavy barrel upper that shoots well. They catch some flack on other sites and I am not sure why..maybe its just one of those deals where since they are not the highest priced rifles they are junk?? if I had a chance I would buy another one of there products no problem.

My dad and I both have bought one this year and they are shooters. Have not had to worry about forward assist yet. My kids will use it and load it pretty quietly. When we bought them I didn't know a thing about them now I can clean them and pull the trigger and its all good.

Correct - the Sportical is missing the Forward Assist and the Dust Cover...neither is a huge thing. I've been shooting ARs for a long time in competition, hunting and "at work"...have yet to use the "plunger"...

No problems with my DPMS carbine, solid, accurate and reliable...what more do you need?

I've had one of these for 2 years now. No trouble at all except with steel cased forien ammo. "wolf" DON'T USE IT! THE LAQUERED CASES STICK IN THE CHAMBER WHEN THE BARREL HEATS UP!

Works slick as "snot on a door knob" when using good American brass ammo.
