THANK GOD!!! the Series 7 exam is over.....

well I just got a really, really big relief and quite a nice surprise... I work as a financial advisor for AXA-Equitable and already have my Series 6 exam which allows me to sell mutual funds, fixed annuities and ETFs but I had to take my Series 7 exam to sell stocks, options, bonds, variable annuities and other securities. This is exam is 6 hrs long, 250 questions and considered just a step below in difficulty to the bar exam for lawyers. I'd been planning on taking it in a month or two and been studying periodically but got an email 2 weeks ago saying I had to take it by April 8th... WHAT!?!?! Recommendations say you need to study about 30-40 hrs to pass, well my procrastinating and short attention span left me with probably less than 10 hrs studying... I went in to take it planning on failing and I bang out a 70, the lowest possible score to pass!!!! WHEW!!! what a relief, I'm basically amazed I was able to pass with my lack of dedication to studying. So with that I get a $2000 bonus once I go on contract and it saves me $250 from having to re-test. So to say the least, I'm completely relieved of 99% of my stress and so happy I don't have to re-test!!! If any of you guys have taken it or know anyone who has, you probably know how difficult it is and how stressful it can be... The best part is all my colleagues, friends and family are even more amazed b/c they can't believe I passed on such short notice and lack of preparation... Congrats! That is a major accomplishment. A buddy of mine just took a CFP test and is awaiting his score. He has been studying for months. I know he is going crazy waiting. Way to go!
 
Way to go! I usually do the best on tests when I don't have much time to prepare too. It's the test that I study my butt off for that I bomb.
 
Congratulations.... My son has been studying his fanny off to pass the General Contractors exam that is required by several states and I know how much stress he's putting himself through.

He's in charge of installing communications towers for a company in several states in the South and East and this license will put him in a good 'job security' place as if he leaves this company, they have to replace him within 60 days..with the same qualifications and experience...

Congrats!

I drove from Ohio to St. Louis to take a test for my field and at the time, it had a 50% failure rate across the nation. My coworker and I took it and both thought we failed it. We said oh well, lets part for the rest of the weekend. Turned out he failed and I passed with flying colors. I studied as I drove the 5 hour trip..lol

don't know what the Sharpe ratio is but beta is a measure of the volatility of a security of portfolio compared to the overall market... thanks for the kind words fellas, a Certified Financial Planner or Series 66 is the next one I tackle but I don't know if they can get much harder, now that I got my 6 and my 7 I'm pretty much set for life in the financial services industry which will really help if I decide to move out west in a few years, that opens up a lot of job opportunities...
