The bear whisperer tv show bear calling.

I agreed with AP that a public show invites public criticism.
That's the only opinion I've shared in this thread.

I purposely left points of view out that I disagree with in an effort to keep from needlessly twisting anyone's panties.

Are you reading a little much into my post?

I only post things outside of the classifieds to try to help, or to point out blatant stupidity. I consider that "constructive criticism".

Aaron Proffitt is well spoken, and a grown man. I'll let him speak for himself.

YMMV....

Thanks for the comments.

Ya, the Tap Out, even I watched it and wish I had picked different cloths that day. Bottom line is I do keep it real. I left my house in Maine, met the officials at the site where the bear was and went looking around, didn’t change cloths just for the show (probably should have … LOL).

Again I realize the show isn’t for people that like to see a lot of killing, it is more educational as most of the country does not know much about bears. If I wanted just kill after kill, they would all be with doughnuts and we didn’t want that for this series.

We will be doing 13 different shows in 2012, and most all of them are pretty much the same … whitetail, elk, bear over bait .. 2 – 3 kills per show. We went a completely different route with this one and frankly it has paid off for us 10 fold with viewer response. Though people won’t like it because of the lack of hunting and more of the conservation aspect, we picked up viewers because of it’s originality.

Red Frog I will send you a link to the show so you can take a peek. At least you’ll know what everyone is talking about … LOL.

Thanks Blaine I appreciate it. Though this wouldn't be the first time I was speaking about something I knew nothing about.
Just ask my wife.

"Are you reading a little much into my post?" Crazy horse that could certainly be the case . The internet isn't the best medium to 'discuss' things sometimes. If you think I got a little 'froggy' it wasn't intentional and I apologize.

Blaine, don't misconstrue my above posted comment. It had nothing to do with your show. I haven't even seen your show, therefore I have no opinion on it.

I have little interest in calling bears. The last bear show that interested me ended with a hippy being eaten.
If you have an episode that ends with a hippy being eaten, then by all means send me a link.

Good luck with your endeavour.

Blaine contrarie to some on here I enjoy your show. It is nice to see a program that explains how to do things instead of give me your money and I'll take you to an animal to kill. I for one like your show.

I have coyote hunted with Blaine in the past and I will say he is a stand up guy and just plain real. If you hunted with him for a day you it would be hard not to call him a friend. He hunted here in MA at night with no lights with me and we chuckled half the time. I just wanted to put my 2 cents in and stick up for a friend of mine. Not liking the show is one thing and we are all entitled to our own opinion but, lets try not to make it personal.
If you don't like certain aspects of the show let him know. He will probably appreciate your honesty and make some changes. Blaine I have a suggestion for the show............
How about we get you to wear a camo Boston Red Sox hat!!!!!!!

I never meant for my post to be a personal attack on you Blaine. As I said before I like calling bears, I have called in several black bears an a sow and cub grizzly in the last 7 or 8 years. I have footage of a few of the stands including the grizzly pair. I think you could do an awesome show just calling bears. You would have to hunt your but off to get enough footage but from the number of stands I have made for bears I think you could do it. Bear behavior is very cool when you call them. They woof, stand, pop their teeth, tear at trees and bushes. All of these would make amazing tv.

I don't want to see another show of white-tail hunting one more time. Bears over bait is way over done as well. You could make your show very unique and something many of us would tune into for sure buy making it different in the way you hunt. I don't care what clothing you have on, but I think what you say does matter. I have only seen one episode but I thought the story of the bear turned killer was not very believable. Black bears in the west are omnivores and all will and do kill at some times of the year. Around here we just call them depredating or problem bears. Maybe it is different in the east.

Thanks for listening and Joining PM.
I will watch again,

Redfrog, I did give my honest opinion plus constructive criticism (talk more like Fred & Les and less like a guru talking down from a mountain top) and the number of minutes of show vs. commercials is set so all show producers have to work around it. Also, I was addressing another members statement about the commercials in effect saying they weren't any different than any other shows.

It's been my experience that hunting show cast & crew DO show up here to read our opinions so if one guy likes something and three others don't the show crew knows how we feel and can decide who to please or just please themselves.

Blaine, thanks for confirming commercial times. As someone else said, we tuned in because we WANTED the show to succeed. Don't give up just because we didn't love everything you did. We just don't like being talked down to.

A crew member on another hunting show critiqued on this board PM'd me and I learned, among other things, that it costs about $1000 just to get a 30 minute show on the air. I think that's not counting the time & expense of actually doing what's being filmed.

And, yes, I too will be watching when the next show comes on. It'll be the third for me and I think that two is all that have aired so far so obviously I'm a fan.

You are right !! It would take years to call in enough bears to make a series. UNLESS of course you al banded together and got me enough footage.

I surely would like to say for the record, if for some reason I came off as talking down to anyone rather then just plain trying to help, I do not feel that way. The basis behind the show is I use experts from all around the world to get the footage I need to put on a show without baiting.

Ya, even in the east, you are not going to find bears running around killing animals. That year the grass was growing late and more importantly, we got a call to go up there and see if we could help because the bear was not coming to bait and 3 moose down in 3 days.

I don’t get out west like I should except for Alaska, so anyone with some good HD footage, please feel free to send me a message if you got any, I would love to get it on TV. I don’t have nearly enough for season 2.

You guys do this calling year round, I do it maybe 45 days out of the year so the tips and tricks you got to get bears coming in … would be awesome I am sure for the regular viewer, heck me to.

The $1000 to air a show was about 3 – 4 years ago for the record. In 2012 you we will pay $2500 - $3500 depending on the quarter (that is every single week and only for airtime).

FYI the new format of The sportsman channel (6 originals and then 6 repeats) is happening now, so after a few more weeks, repeats will start. That being said, that gives us 1 more winter to dive into bear dens and then in spring get some calling footage before it starts back up in March again.

Blaine

Oh and Brian ... cause I can't seem to call a coyote here in Maine to save my life, I need another pelt to make a cool looking hat ... I LOVE THAT THING LES WEARS.

WoW! OK, so let me get this straight, the Sportsman Channel charges you "$2500 - $3500" for air time only. So you have to get at least that much from the sponsors, per show, just to break even.

So you shoot the footage (your cost), send it to a lab where it's edited into a show (again your cost) and then the sponsors pay you to advertise on your show (their cost). Then you have to pay the Sportsman Channel to air the show (again your cost)?

Somehow I don't think you're going to get rich doing this.

earlier posts talks about how he hates to watch a 30 min show with 5 mins of real hunting!!ME TOO! so I just record them and fast forward to the meat of the show..saves a lot of time and I can watch a bunch in 30 mins.. im sure everyone is doing the same

Ya, there is said that there are over 500 outdoor shows. Maybe 10-20 of them make money. The rest of us do it because we love to do it. It is like racing cars at a local track, that is the best way to describe it I think. They pay hundreds of dollars for tires alone and win $50 if they win … LOL. Love it though and I do produce other shows where I just get a paycheck, so I am blessed to be able to work the outdoor industry for a living, but my personal shows, … ya, not making a living there.

That's actually a fair enough endorsement...the man's actually hunted alongside him as opposed to being allowed snippets. I'll accept that.
