The best 223 rifle

I agree with MarkA. CZ 527 American all the way! Mine, with a 4x12 scope, weighs in at 7-1/2 lbs. I have 5 different loads that will shoot well under an inch and that's using bullet weights from 40 to 55 grains. Also the Winchester white box will consistantly group at 3/4" or less. The only rifle that I might like better is another CZ 527 American only in the .204 Ruger. For a sporter weight gun that one is just plain accurate!!
 
Tikka was my choice not once, but three times. Silky smooth action, nice trigger and they shoot like a house a fire! Good luck whichever you choose.
 
I guess that there is nothing that says I can't get more than one rifle. But for now, the Tikka is looking like the way to go. And I think that they are resonably priced. And I want something light-weight. Later one when I get a .204, I will probably get a heavy barrel.

I own a couple of CZ's and also a couple fo Tikkas's. One of the CZ's in 221 FB has one of the nicest pieces of wood on it I have ever seen on a factory rifle.

With that said, if I was told I could only buy one more rifle in my life, it would be another Tikka. IMHO, there is no real comparison between the two rifles other than to say they are both good quality rifles, However, the Tikka's are a step ahead in all respects, again just my HO. - BCB

Heavy, yes. But very, very accurate. smooth, mean rifle with so little recoil you can rest your eyeball on the lense of the scope and see all of the action even at high power. Both at the bench and on long range shots, this rifle with hand loaded ammo will get the job done way out! Not to mention a tuned trigger.

The boys on the rifle range call her, "The Black Mamba".
 
I just bought a CZ 527 in 223. Already have a 527 in 222 that is VERY accurate, so I HAD to buy one in 223. The wood on the 223 is magnificent!! Can't wait to put a scope on it and get some loads worked up for it. One of the many things I like about the 527's is the light weight, so it's easy to carry. I must say in all honesty, that I didn't like that magazine hanging down in front of the trigger guard. But, with the great accuracy of the 222, I have come to accept the magazine issue, especially with the super wood on the 223. I'll get into the trigger on the 223 and spiff it up like I did on the 222. I just love that small Mauser type action on the CZ's too.
If I can point you to the CZ in 223, I'm sure you won't be disappointed with it. I have a CZ 452 in 17 HMR that is very fine too, and accurate.

I just priced a CZ-527 in .221 Fireball at a local gun shop at $479.00. They didn't have one in stock but in th past they've always come in at the quoted price. Hope you can find even a better deal.

Can't say enough good things about my Tikka. Its become my rifle of choice for yotes. Shoots well, takes abuse, and didn't break the bank. Shoots very consistently, cold or hot barrel, and most loads have the same POI.

This target is the 4,5,6 shots out of a new Tikka 223 T-3 lite, Blue/syn. 100 yards., 3X9 Leupy. The first three were at 25 yards to get close. This is cheap Winny white box ammo. Easy 3/8". since I have several one holers, no trigger job, nothing. 500 for the gun 250 for the scope, rings are free. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

In my opinion and experience, there is nothing even close for the cost. I have owned at least 100 rifles, over the last 40 years. Personally I do not like Weatherby or Browning Abolt, Rem, Win, Ruger, are ok if you want to pay more than a Tikka, then pay to have them finished. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I do wish Tikkas were built in America, but if they were they would be 1500.00 each.

If price is not the factor make sure to hold the Sako finnlight and a Browning with a dura touch stock before you lay down your cash. They are hard to put down

I was looking towards the 500 dollar range. I will pay more for a heavy barrel later, but right now, I just need something that is accurate and light.
 
i just purchaced a compact in 223. i loaded a 40gr. nosler ballistic tip. with H533 powder. at 25yrds i shot dang near a one hole shot group. i moved it out to 100 yrds and shot less than a inch. i have it topped with a leupold 2-7X32 i took i crow out at around 150, in the head. just have shot some different things out past 200yds. it does drop but not as bad as i thought it would.

i bought it for ground squirls and calling in dogs.
 
For those who dislike the hanging magazine on the CZ527, here is the good news. Jerry's Sports just posted the sale of the CZ527 with flush magazine. It holds only three rounds though.

So, there you go....hang on for a little longer and who knows CZ may modify the current funky backward safety to our American taste....But then price may be in the $600 by that time...lol.

I paid only $380 for my CZ527 American new in box this time last year.
